Food Stamp Use Reportedly Drops As Illegal Immigrants Withdraw For Fear Of Deportation

Illegal immigrants are reportedly canceling their food stamps en masse over fears of being deported, reports the Washington Post.

In an article titled “Immigrants are going hungry so Trump won’t deport them,” WaPo writer Caitlin Dewey cites New York-based SNAP Outreach Coordinator Luisa Fortin whose clients are “spooked by the political climate.”

The article reads:

Since mid-January, five of Fortin’s families have withdrawn from the SNAP program. Based on calls she gets from other clients, she fears more cancellations are imminent.

WaPo goes on to point out that Luisa’s food bank in Chattanooga is not the only one in the country experiencing a downturn in SNAP users.

In the two months since President Trump’s inauguration, food banks and hunger advocates around the country have noticed a decline in the number of eligible immigrants applying for SNAP – and an uptick in immigrants seeking to withdraw from the program.

Many apparently fear that participation in SNAP will catch Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s attention.

These fears are not unfounded.

In January, reports Breitbart, a draft executive order from the Trump administration sought to make receiving government benefits grounds for deportation.

“I don’t think it’s proper to increase the burden on U.S. taxpayers for people whose only claim to them is that they broke our law,” declared Robert Rector of the Heritage Foundation – a supporter of that executive order.

Many social media users appear to agree.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture reports that 1.5 million illegal immigrants used food stamps in 2015.

In that same year, the federal government spent $75 billion on the SNAP program.

Not sure if this is 100% accurate. DOA link and other articles say that illegals aren’t eligible. They get some benefits by proxy from anchor babies being eligible (something which should be done away with immediately), and some legal noncitizens get it. Both of which I think are collecting less benefits. That’s fine, neither group should get shit anyway, but this post could be written better IMO.

This is true so you have to ask how. On some level (the individual or the administration) someone is practicing some form of fraud. The question is who and why.

But I’ve known undocumented people with ebt cards (one a middle aged canadian man, strangely enough), who aren’t shy about how much they “make”.

Obama’s illegal alien aunt in Boston was getting Both SNAP & subsidized housing (Years!), before she was made legal, around time he was getting elected. Boston Globe did story. Her views on OUR “largess” are quite eye opening!

Why is this a bad thing? If you are here illegally, you have broken federal law. You have never paid in to the system and you don’t get to take from the system. You wonder why Americas broke? How many more “legal” leeches do we need? Take care of Americans first

Only bad thing is how it’s being reported as “immigrants” and not “illegal immigrants”

Eligible legal immigrants have nothing to fear in participating in SNAP. So one must wonder if the immigrants withdrawing from the service are indeed illegally receiving benefits.

People who are coming here legally should not be put on assistance. They should have to prove their ability to support themselves before they come. Check out the immigration requirements of other countries!

I don’t want to sound harsh, but I don’t care if they are falling dead in the street, as long as American families are hungry, they should be too. Besides, how many times have you heard, “we just want to come and work!” Ok, there are plenty of jobs, illegals shouldn’t need food stamps.

Good gravy, Milo. Where do those Trending Today articles or ads, or whatever they are come from? I came to leave a comment about food stamps. I’m so grossed out by those pictures I can’t even remember what I was going to say.

those ads are generated by YOUR surfing preferences….everyone sees different ones based on what places they have been on the web and where they have shopped online….

Yikes! Then maybe I need to stop reading Milo’s articles. His postings about that amazing 4chan take-down of HWNDU sent me to the 4chan website to look for the original “plotting” thread. It was an amazing trip through the minds of some pretty amazing people – but wow, there was definitely some crazy stuff on there.

Interestingly, though, after coming back here today, the semi-naked pictures are gone, replaced with some really normal-looking stuff. Has Milo’s team listened and responded (fingers crossed, hoping so).

I can tell you that if ICE came to my city in Central Calif and deported the illegals more than half the town would disappear, the schools would be empty and I can tell you for a fact that they give food stamps to illegals here.

Gee maybe now my 70 year old sister can get more than the paltry 16.00 snap dollars a month they give her after her husband was killed walking to his bus on his way to work, by a non-English speaking Mexican speeding on a rainy night in Seattle. Not even a traffic ticket for taking a life. SIXTEEN dollars! WE thought is was a joke. Oh and her SS increase was only 40 dollars a month too. Good riddance ILLEGALS, maybe now there will be some extra for US CITIZENS that need it.

These programs should be for those that are by birth citizens with no other citizenship elsewhere.
People who are born here from others that were born here have no country to flee to for help. Those are the true needy people.

These people unhappy because people are cancelling their foodstamp addiction are the same people who gave out awards for the states that increased the number of people on foodstamps under their programs.

What’s the difference between an “illegal immigrant” and an “invader”?

In related news: “islamist” is not a real word. The correct word is “muslim”.

Illegal immigrants are not eligible for ANY govt assistance. They need to go back to their home countries. The woman in this video was driving an expensive vehicle. It is so frustrating that we are giving handouts to people who need to be responsible for their own upkeep.
