Did the CIA deliberately mimic Russian hacking protocols?

This morning, WikiLeaks released their Vault 7 dump. They describe it as “the largest ever publication of confidential documents on the agency”.

These leaks reveals an internal group within the CIA called UMBRAGE, which maintains a substantial library of attack techniques ‘stolen’ from malware produced in other states including the Russian Federation.

With UMBRAGE and related projects, the CIA cannot only increase its total number of attack types, but also misdirect attribution by leaving the “fingerprints” of the groups that the attack techniques were stolen from.

UMBRAGE components cover keyloggers, password collection, webcam capture, data destruction, persistence, privilege escalation, stealth, anti-virus (PSP) avoidance, and survey techniques.

It’s not proof, it’s evidence, Learn the difference. There’s evidence for lots of things that are understood to be false. Maybe it was CIA (although seems highly the CIA would sabotage Clinton over Trump. ), or maybe it was Russia. Both possibilities would leave the same evidence of Russian “fingerprints”, and so you and I can’t know the answer. Think harder and watch your confirmation bias.

Circumstantial evidence has sent people to the electric chair. But thanks for your input Schoolmarm. Your hectoring has been noted.

Great logic. Firstly this is not circumstantial evidence. But lets say it is… so you are saying that since circumstantial evidence has sent people to the electric chair, it is then ok to base ones beliefs on this type of flimsy evidence?

Flimsy? You apparently are not paying attention. Stick around, it’s about to get really good.

It is flimsy at best. They are saying that CIA involvement would leave Russian fingerprints, the same fingerprints originally left by Russian hackers. Therefore, all things being equal, there would be a split chance between Russia, USA or even possibly China or a whole host of other countries being involved. Now add some consideration to Trump’s treatment of the CIA during his campaign, his constant insults and demeaning comments towards them, it would be fair to assert that the likelihood of the CIA sabotaging Hilary to put Trump in power are remote.

“With the slightest bit of critical thinking it is clear that claiming the CIA influenced the election towards Trump is laughable.”

Your proof? While you are laughing, you forgot about the CIA’s public admission of illegally wire tapping James Rosen and his parents. Obama’s CIA was busted wire-tapping Angela Merkel. Cheryl Mills, etc etc. There are plenty more examples. Obama has *Already* been busted for this. Only a shill would think it wasn’t possible for him to do it again.

Confirmation bias, ha! You are swimming in it.

Again I say: stick around, you are about to see a spectacle the likes you have never seen before.

Apparently the CIA can make ANYONE appear to be Boris and Natasha.

What would Moose and Squirrel have to say about this?

Got to be real careful about accusations like this… the implications are frightening. Considering what this suggests, would this also mean the CIA were the ones who leaked all the incriminating stuff from the Democrats?

    I’m not sure I can buy that…

The release of the Podesta emails was due to a fishing email he stupidly responded to. The hack of the Democrat party and the attempted hack of the Republican party were separate. And don’t forget that the Dem Party hack info was passed to Wikileaks by an informant in a park or something. This stuff is complicated but its the MSM, democrats and some in intelligence, who constantly try to conflate everything into the “Russians did it”. Just saying. We just have to wait and see.

I see.. thanks for sharing… I honestly don’t know much about the WikiLeaks stuff. I didn’t have to see them to know Hillary’s camp was dirty.
Like you said, it’s a wait and see thing. Don’t want to jump to any conclusions either way. It’s just scary to think that the CIA has potentially been working in US land – and I suspect these leaks aren’t going to make many foreign friends, either.

I agree, Trump has his work cut out for him when it comes to rebuilding trust.
I think the “wait and see thing” is a great new paradigm we are experiencing. The more honest people on the left and on the right take the wait and see attitude the better. There is no reason to read a story and assume its true.

Actually, Pedo Podesta’s Secretary caught it and sent it to an IT. He wrote back it was “legit”. Later claiming it was a typo, since he had meant to write “illegit”. Podesta opened it and gave his password as “password”. The rest is Herstory.
No idea if this IT guy is still alive.

Not everyone in the CIA is bad, and some of them have obviously leaked info to Wikileaks during the election campaign. CIA is obviously having its own internal civil war.

I think the “Year Zero” moniker is a bit too melodramatic. It seems a bit like jumping the shark. I hope this leak does have Year Zero effect though, don’t get me wrong.

When you drain a swamp, the mud and s&*t gets exposed which is precisely what Wikileaks has played a huge role in doing in their latest expose.

Trump now will have the public onside when he seeks the curbing of powers of US intelligence agencies which have been running amok globally for decades.

Trump is going to go down in history as one of the greatest reforming US presidents and Wikileak’s role in this will also be positively noted.
