A shirtless man holding a beer in one hand and hunting bow in the other fired arrows across a suburban street at construction workers on Thursday.
In the beachside Sydney suburb of Coogee, a 47-year-old unnamed man emerged from his home around noon hurling obscenities at the workers across the street. “You’re s——- yourself hey. You f—— —-. You’re —- s—- yourself,” he yelled, according to 9News. He then began firing arrows at a mobile crane and fence. Officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command arrested the topless man in the front yard of a home on Carrington Road and he was taken to Maroubra Police Station where he is cooperating with the investigation. Police also seized the hunting bow and other evidence from the scene.
No one was injured in the attack. Workers on the scene told local news they thought it was a joke at first. In video published exclusively to 9News, the workers laugh at the shirtless man as he yells. This causes the situation to escalate.
The man starts firing arrows and issuing more threats as he paces in front of the building site. One worker can be heard yelling “Oi, don’t shoot it bro.”
Worker Lyall Maloney told 9News, “He shot the sign, and the fence … At the beginning he was really really angry and then afterwards he was just like, being a hero like it was just ego,” Maloney said.
