Liberal Professor At State-Funded University Promotes “Tax Strike” Against Trump

A whole host of liberals on Twitter have decided that they aren’t going to pay taxes and many of them are planning marches for tax day.

People like Mia Farrow are tweeting about refusing to pay taxes now that Donald J. Trump is in office. The Guardian interviewed Andrew Newman, a Stony Brook University — state funded — English professor who is a part of the effort to resist President Trump by not paying taxes.

“My tax money will be going towards putting up a wall on the Mexican border instead of helping sick people. It will contribute to the destruction of the environment and maybe more nuclear weapons. I think there will be a redistribution of wealth from the middle class to the wealthy elite and Trump’s campaign for the working man and woman was an absolute fraud. If you pay taxes you are implicated in the system.”

Many liberals are calling for actual protests and demonstrations on tax day.

Huffington Post is reporting that anti-Trump rallies and marches planned for tax day are beginning to pick up steam on Twitter.

A Facebook event has popped up and over 39,000 people are listed as interested. The description reads, in part:

Join us at the White House on Saturday, April 15, 2017, to march and show Donald Trump that he owes us transparency. Two-thirds of Americans are concerned that he may be putting his interests ahead of the country’s. Until we see his tax returns, we can’t know for sure.

Some on Twitter find the idea of liberals not paying their taxes pretty entertaining:

Liberals refuse to pay federal taxes: government looses $5000. Government refuses to pay welfare to liberals: due to massive savings wall to mexico will be made of pure gold.

Humorous that people too stupid to do their own taxes think they could tell anything from viewing a tax return as complex as what DJT’s return must, given the vast sources of income and investments, entail ! I haven’t even heard anyone say whether they want corporate or personal returns !!!

If these people are ALL willing to go to prison rather than pay taxes, then what, William. I know it’s a stretch to expect that most of this is more than talk, but what if it is? We know there are people willing to use violence just to keep people like Milo from speaking. It doesn’t seem like too much of a stretch to see people actually willing to be tax protesters because they hate Trump.

For my part, why conservatives pay taxes to support the federal judiciary’s unconstitutional and insane abortion rulings is beyond me.

Well, good luck with that one. If there’s one agency you don’t want to cross or mess with, regardless who’s in the WH, it’s the IRS. While I still despise of paying any taxes, at least I know it’s headed for “some” expenses in the agenda we voted for. Of course, most important this is very treacherous in the way these loons describe how they’re against the wall, limiting immigration, etc DJT agenda and “contributing to it”… which is meant to protect all of us, including you libtards.

The irony is especially pronounced from those twits in CA calling for not paying taxes, after CA just announced they’ll need federal help to deal with their damn dam problem. Which they ignored for 13 years. Liberals truly are an idiot species.

      • AverageJoe1987

        February 17, 2017 at 7:26 am

I read on another site that California put funds towards a different dam a few years ago that had nothing wrong with it, while ignoring the failing one. And they spend $25 billion taking care of illegals, all while ignoring the failing dam.

California hates Trump and want to secede. But now that they need something they suddenly are saying “Please President Trump, help us!!!”

Complaining that refusing to pay taxes to the US Government harms states and localities? Most of that funneling of federal money to the states isn’t constitutional in the first place, and its certainly not efficient for people to send money to Washington DC so Congress can dole it back to the places where they live.

So Milo’s readers believe in the limited government the US Constitution actually created or not? Do they believe in the classical liberal principles on which the American Republic was founded or not? There is little to nothing in this comment thread to demonstrate that they do.

    • David Calvani

      February 18, 2017 at 3:32 am

That’s fair, Frank, if you’re happy to see property confiscated from people who refuse to pay taxes for good reasons, or from people who make mistakes with the overly complicated tax code, rather than just from hypocritical leftists.

Otherwise you’re just being a snot.

      • Paul Robson

        February 19, 2017 at 2:59 pm

This isn’t going to be difficult though is it. Even if the IRS don’t notice the protest (they will) then at some point they are going to ask where their tax filing is. At that point, they can either say they have made a mistake or whatever – in which case the IRS may give them a short time to sort it out (as it happens this is my exact position at the moment with HMRC in England, though I’m not sure whose mistake it is). Or they can tell them they aren’t doing it.

Assuming they go for option 1, all that does is delay it. If they still haven’t filed in a couple of weeks or whatever, the IRS will assume they are dicking around and go after them.

IME tax people are quite reasonable. If you make a mistake, or are unsure they are quite okay with it as long as you make efforts to fix the problem and keep them informed.

        • David Calvani

          February 19, 2017 at 10:02 pm

How your comment is a response to mine is unknown to me.

Either Frank Lee believes there are proper reasons for people to refuse to pay taxes or he doesn’t. We don’t know as he didn’t respond. My point was he can’t decently say he enjoys the thought of their property being confiscated because of failure regarding a direct tax (like an income tax) just because he doesn’t like the reasons behind the proposed protest. (And I agree the stated reasons are absurd.)

As for your assertion that “tax people are quite reasonable” — that’s highly debatable. Let’s just say they’ll be as reasonable as they think the tax laws allow them to be, which often isn’t very. I know of people fined for — and also charged interest (which is in itself outrageous) for very honest mistakes (which are easy to make given the absurd complexity of the tax code). I do not find that reasonable in the slightest. (But it is all acceptable in the land of the free and home of the brave.)

These people are idiots. For one, people don’t “pay all their taxes” on April 15. Most people have already paid their taxes thru withholdings on their W2 paycheck, and April 15 is the day to file your taxes and reconcile them. Some have to pay, most get a refund. If you have to pay a large sum, you may be hit with additional fines for underpayment of taxes during the year. And for 1099 income people, they also pay estimated taxes during the year if their income is large enough, or they too will pay additional fines for underpayment of taxes during the year. So the thought that people are not going to pay taxes on April 15 is actually going to do anything is quite ignorant. But don’t let facts get in the way of your protest…go for it.

    • William

      February 16, 2017 at 5:04 pm

And if these chumps decide to NOT file on April 15th, any refunded funds not paid out sit in an account gaining interest, making the govt more money. Oooohhhh, the irony.

I would say yes to both of those things. My father taught me early on about bank interest and I accumulated several college degrees but what really makes a person smart is an open mind and open eyes. Not hard to make connections in life, but those who are either afraid or selfish will shrink the world around them, create a bubble, dictate the terms in that bubble, and see life as they wish it was – not as it really is, which makes for a rude awakening. Hence, the reason why they want govt legislation to help them maintain their bubble supremacy.

What to stop them from claiming a boat load of deductions — so that there payroll deductions are too low — and then not filling? It is with fillings that the IRS notices the problems that lead to fines and garnishments. (And here we are assuming someone subject to payroll taxes in the first place.)

The attitude commonly expressed here that somehow it just isn’t possible to do what they’re proposing seems silly. It is fair to doubt their seriousness, of course, but to act like they’re proposing going to the moon by flapping their arms isn’t.

    • David Calvani

Why do you assume that these people will simple allow the IRS to come in “and basically [do] it for [them], including further fines” without, say, resorting to the sort of violence Milo witnessed at UC Berkeley?

Given that we are dealing with angry leftists, and given the level of anti-Trump hysteria within the Left ever since the election, such an assumption hardly seems warranted.

I’m fairly certain there’s no law that requires a presidential candidate to release his/her tax returns. In fact, it’s a ridiculous practice and should be stopped. No candidate should have to reveal his/her taxes, ever.
The liberal logic that since Trump didn’t disclose his tax return means I don’t have to pay taxes is apples to oranges. By law, he doesn’t have to disclose his return; by law, you have to file one. And President Trump is avoiding taxes, not evading them. Learn the difference…

    • AverageJoe1987

They think not letting everyone see how much you made and paid out in taxes is the same as not paying at all.

    • David Calvani

      February 18, 2017 at 3:20 am

I doubt that avoiding taxes is much different from evading them to people who simply don’t qualify for the avoidance — yet are more hurt economically by the taxes they pay than any billionaire like the president is.

      • Zen Bbq

        February 18, 2017 at 10:46 am

You mean the 45% of American households that don’t pay any income tax what so ever? Sounds like tax avoidance to me.
The fact is, the President is using legal tax strategies to avoid undue taxation, just like everyone should be doing. The tax code is written to encourage this behavior. Congress wants you to start a business, save for retirement, buy a house, go to college, and donate to charities among other things. Many, many tax breaks for middle class and lower income.
Not nearly as many for those in and around the poverty level because, as the number above suggests, many don’t pay taxes at all. In fact, the Earned Income Credit (EIC) gives you money back from the Federal Government, even though you didn’t pay any taxes to begin with; it’s a negative tax! I doubt President Trump or President Obama has access to that one.
If you get up to $5,572 back from the IRS and have no reported income, what’s the marginal tax rate and what is the economic result?
The GAO and IRS estimate that 10% to 15% of eligible recipients for the EIC don’t claim it. What’s the morality of that?
So tell me, is your doubt based on your lack of knowledge of the tax code or are you just virtue signalling? Lack of knowledge I can help with.

            February 20, 2017 at 11:31 am

Nooooo chance. They think “avoidance” (legal) is what I and people I like do, “evasion” (illegal) is what Trump and people I don’t like do.

I doubt very much Trump has done anything illegal (these people are so stupid they think if you offset the cost of building a hotel against the money it makes it is avoiding paying tax …..) but the numpties and the media will find something and crucify him for it.

We had (in the UK) our own little McCarthyite tax thing for a while. Main target was Starbucks.

The thickies couldn’t grasp how a store could make a profit and Starbucks overall didn’t. The fact that Starbucks is expanding like there’s no tomorrow and while an individual store may make money on a day to day basis, it’s still paying back investment in that store and investing in new ones ….. you might as well be talking in a foreign language.

  20. Teresa Robison Ford

    February 16, 2017 at 4:27 pm

Okay…help me out here. If you are employed your taxes are already coming out of each paycheck. Normally when people file their tax return they get some kind of a refund and money back for their personal use. What you’re saying is not logical. You are going to leave more taxes in the coffer by not filing. The only thing this does is puts you in the category of breaking the law. And if you’re self employed and you don’t file your taxes the IRS gets to come in and take money from your business, your home, bank account, and other possessions. Think people!!! My personal belief for over 20 years has been that income and property taxes are immoral and illegal. No-one should be able to collect tax off the sweat of another person’s work or on a home and/or land, once purchased. This system punishes individuals who lose a job or retires in the situation where they might lose that asset because they fall on hard times. There are so many things we all agree upon. And so many things we can change if we demand change. But change comes through education, cooperation, and changes to the law. Refusing to pay your taxes when there is a law requiring that just hurts you and you gain nothing in the end.

    • David Calvani

      February 18, 2017 at 3:19 am

These people aren’t interested in helping themselves, Teresa. There interested in making a statement — and perhaps denying the government some money. You know — the way Thoreau did when he refused to pay the poll tax to fund the Mexican-American war. He was put in jail for his actions. He never thought he was just hurting himself.(That the episode was one of error upon error is not important here.)

You complain bitterly about the very existence of income taxes, yet you condemn people for taking the direct action possible against them. I am not surprised as I’ve long thought conservatives to be cowards, but still…

    Mia farrow…
If you want to protest effectively, shave your head.

I forgot. No one really pays any attention to you anymore.

But then, unlike me, you never had to compete against illegal immigrants for work.

Awesome… keep this up… this is akin to the inane strategies that gave the election away in 16 … separate yourselves from working class taxpayers … see how that works out

So, when my tax money is funding abortions and i dont agree with that, that is OK with libturds. Don’t pay your taxes, then you can deal with the IRS. Good luck

When our taxes are taking care of illegals who we don’t think should even be allowed to stay, liberals have no issues with us being forced to pay for that.

So when they are in prison for tax evasion, will they blame themselves for their stupidity? Or blame Trump?

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE LET IT BE TRUE! It would be so sad if we had to lock up all of these nimrods and take away their twitter accounts, riots, the whining, the fake news. These are the people that need shutting up. What better way than be their own ignorance!!!

So now…after years of just telling us all to pay more taxes, they are going to whine about paying taxes?

I’ve never had a choice about my tax dollars going for welfare or to take care of illegals. Maybe we should all stop paying taxes. The lib freeloaders will be the ones who will hurt.

    This is wonderful!

Trump has managed to create leftists who are against income taxes! His brilliance is amazing.

As already pointed out by others the vast majority pay taxes from their pay deductions. That these people don’t understand that leads one to wonder what else they don’t understand. It’s true the vast majority of people have intellects at par with goldfish.

And if you don’t – like Mia Farrow probably doesn’t – you are going to be looked at much more closely than a payroll tax person ; your chances of being missed are minimal. This could be so entertaining ; lefties hit the wall of reality.

Jobless Liberals don’t pay tax anyway. These losers are no different then the losers who said they were moving to Canada. If Conservatives were paying for your Abortions you will pay for whatever the hell Trump wants. Deal with it.
