An advocate against sex abuse of children is in police custody after being suspected of attempting to have sex with children as young as two years old.
22 year old Joel Davis is the head of an anti-abuse charity who was allegedly soliciting undercover FBI agents for videos of minors performing sex acts as well as trying to make arrangements for personal sexual encounters with children.
The New York native was arrested on Tuesday on evidence of child sex abuse and child pornography.
Davis chairs the International Campaign to Stop Rape and Gender Violence in Conflict whose mission statement claims to champion ending sexual violence.
“Having started an organization that pushed for the end of sexual violence, Davis displayed the highest degree of hypocrisy by his alleged attempts to sexually exploit multiple minors,” FBI Assistant Director-in-Charge William F. Sweeney Jr. said in a statement.
Undercover agents tracked text message exchanges over the course of several weeks prior to arresting the chairman.
Some of the disturbing commutations show Davis telling agents he was interested in children of all ages. Investigators say he then began texting them sexual photographs of infants and toddlers, and even some putrid imagines of children having sex with adults.
The chairman then allegedly described in graphic detail the depraved acts he planned on conducting with children.
According to prosecutors, Davis relentlessly requested explicit pictures of minors to be sent to him.
“As if this wasn’t repulsive enough, Davis allegedly possessed and distributed utterly explicit images of innocent infants and toddlers being sexually abused by adults,” Sweeney said.
Upon being taken into custody he confessed to police that the pictures he provided them were of a 13 year old boy he abused.
Davis stood in a federal court on Tuesday facing charges of enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity, attempted sexual exploitation of a minor, possession of child pornography and receipt and distribution of child pornography.
Davis has deep roots in academia as an alumnus of Oxford University, Columbia University and The Juilliard School, according to his LinkedIn profile.
US Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman described Davis’s activities as“unfathomable” and “sickening”.
“Davis started an organization devoted to stopping sexual violence, while allegedly engaged in the duplicitous behavior of sharing explicit images of infants engaged in sexual activity,” Berman said.
“Davis also allegedly solicited an undercover officer – whom he thought to be a willing participant – to send sexually explicit videos of his nine-year-old daughter, and even to set up a sexual encounter between himself and a two-year-old.”
“The conduct alleged against Joel Davis is as unfathomable as it is sickening, and as this case demonstrates, law enforcement will keep its watchful eye on the darkest corners of the internet to bring predators to justice.”
Davis has not yet entered a plea for the charges.
