Reporter’s Notebook: Las Vegas Sheriff Joe Lombardo is being mocked and shamed on Twitter after posting a video asking people to support his re-election.
In the tweet, Lombardo says, “I’ve worked hard to keep our neighborhoods safe, I’m proud to be your sheriff and I hope to have earned your vote.”

A quick look at Lombardo’s social media over the past year reveals he has spent more time campaigning on claims of keeping Las Vegas safe than informing the public about what happened October 1, 2017, the night of the Las Vegas shooting, when 58 people were gunned down from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Resort in what is now the worst mass shooting in US history.
Lombardo’s handling of the Las Vegas shooting has made him a figure of national suspicion and a laughing stock within the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, sources say.
Twitter users from across the world were not shy about shaming Lombardo’s handling of the Las Vegas shooting investigation and telling him that they would not be voting for him.
Lombardo claims to have worked hard to make Las Vegas safe, but his campaign message couldn’t be further from the truth. Despite the fact that 58 people died in Vegas only eight months ago in what may have been an ISIS terrorist attack, the public knows nothing about the motive of the shooter(s) due to Lombardo’s lack of transparency regarding the investigation, his fabrication of the shooting timeline, and his violation of freedom of the press which was put on display after he banned me from press conferences and then canceled all further press conferences after I confronted him about his lies on live television.
On top of his poor handling of the massacre, Lombardo has also demonstrated his poor leadership on several other occasions. Following the shooting, Lombardo worked to diminish transparency even more when he encrypted all of the police radios so that the public could no longer listen to police scanners like they did the night of the shooting.
In March 2018, Lombardo’s deceit made headlines yet again when I exposed him hiding the fact that MS-13 were on a killing spree in Las Vegas and dumping mutilated bodies in the desert near popular Las Vegas tourist destinations. Following my expose, Lombardo was forced to hold a press conference and address the MS-13 gang killings I believe he hid from the public, which quickly became a national news story.
As if Lombardo’s poor handling of the Las Vegas shooting and alleged coverup of the MS-13 gang killings wasn’t enough to disqualify him from securing a second term as sheriff, Lombardo received another blow to his campaign in April when a majority of officers within the LVMPD and Las Vegas Police Association refused to endorse him for sheriff.
The refusal and apathy by a majority of Las Vegas police officers to cast a vote in favor of Lombardo reveals a strong contempt for the sitting sheriff among Las Vegas law enforcement, a contempt that is shared by both local residents as well as Americans nationwide unhappy with Lombardo’s performance.
Nearly 82% of LVMPD officers rejected Lombardo for another term as sheriff. Of the few officers who did vote, 24% voted for Tim Bedwell, Lombardo’s strongest opponent in the race to become Clark County Sheriff.
It is evident that not even Lombardo’s own officers believe in him or trust him enough to elect him for a second term, and based on the hilariously and brutally honest, and downright savage, comments under his Twitter post in which he begs for votes, it’s safe to say that nobody has faith in him as sheriff.
Why should we?
