Arch nemesis of Donald Trump and progressive comic Rosie O’Donnell has been caught illegally exceeding the limit for campaign donations to at least five separate Democratic candidates, according to a new report.
Fox News reports the Federal Election Commission makes it clear that any one candidate cannot receive more than $2,700 from any single donor per election. Primaries, runoffs and general elections are all subjected to this rule separately.
O’Donnell has passed the buck to the candidates she illegally financed, believing they should have caught her unlawful donations.
“If 2700 is the cut off – [candidates] should refund the money,” O’Donnell told the New York Post in an email. “I don’t look to see who I can donate most to … I just donate assuming they do not accept what is over the limit.”
O’Donnell claimed that giving money to anti-Trump politicians helped alleviate her “anxiety.”
Roy Moore’s opponent, Sen. Doug Jones, D-Ala., disclosed $4,700 in campaign contributions from the former talk show host.
O’Donnell handed $3,600 to Conor Lamb, a Democrat running for a vacated seat in the Pennsylvania House. Then, according to filings, Lamb received another $1,000 from O’Donnell for a separate congressional district after Pennsylvania redrew the map.
Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif. of the House Intelligence Committee, became $2,950 richer with O’Donnell’s cash. Lauren Underwood received a taste to the tune of $4,200 in her primary campaign for a seat in the Illinois House of Representatives.
Omar Vaid, a congressional candidate in New York City, also received $3,450 from the Flintstones star, according to the filings uncovered by the Post.
Conservative author and filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza was put in prison in 2014 for exceeding the legal limit of donations after he released an anti-Obama film. On Twitter, he has been asking if the punishment will fit the crime for the liberal firebrand, with O’Donnell’s violations being five times worse than his own.
Five times more egregious than my case. Now let’s see if Lady Justice is truly blind https://t.co/FoOerJzRPO
I notice the leftist weasels who call me “felon” have gone dead silent about Rosie committing 5-yes five-campaign finance violations
O’Donnell claims she uses the left-wing fundraising site ActBlue and wrongly believed the website “limits donations to the max allowed.”
Filings tell the story that O’Donnell gave more than $90,000 to 50 separate federal candidates and committees during the 2017-18 election cycle alone. Authorities may also be looking into her donations from past election cycles.
