A member of MS-13, the gang made up of illegal immigrants that’s sweeping across the United States, has pleaded guilty to the 2015 slaying of a teenage boy whom he lured on a date before brutally murdering him.
Build the wall.
The US Attorney’s Office in Massachusetts announced today that 21-year-old Carlos Melara, copped to guilty charges on Friday to RICO conspiracy. Fox News reports that the El Salvador native who entered the United States illegally is one of 61 people named in a fifth superseding indictment targeting the leaders and associates of MS-13.
Prosecutors stated that Melara, along with Henry Josue Parada Martinez, and another unnamed MS-13 member had conspired to lure a boy they met online into going on a date with someone he thought was a girl. The act better known as “catfishing” involves tricking someone into going on a date under false pretenses.
The Massachusetts victim has not been named.
“The defendants targeted the victim in a ‘catfishing’ scheme in which they used a fake Facebook account to trick the victim into thinking he was talking to a girl,” the US Attorney’s Office said. “In reality, the Facebook account was being controlled by MS-13 members to lure in suspected gang rivals so that the gang could murder them.”
“On the day of the murder, Melara picked up the victim on a scooter pretending to be a friend of the girl that the victim was planning to meet for a date,” the feds added. “Melara drove the victim to Constitution Beach, where the other MS-13 members were waiting to kill him. Melara and the other MS-13 members took turns attacking and stabbing the victim to death.”
After butchering the teenager, prosecutors say Melara was then promoted to the rank of “homeboy”—a full member of MS-13, as a reward for his actions.
Melara is expected to serve between 30 and 40 years in prison and subject to deportation following the completion of his sentence.
