MILO: Sorry To Say It, But America’s Conservative Movement Lacks Courage

Say what you want about today’s antifa soy boys, but it takes a degree of intestinal fortitude to mask up and physically assault people and smash up property.

Even if these nancy-boy progressives ultimately possess only the brittle courage of the playground bully, they at least have the instinct to take to the streets when their principles are threatened.

To understand what they are most threatened by, consider whom they expend the most effort to shut down. Trump, Mike Cernovich, Pamela Geller, your humble correspondent. They swing into action every time we appear in public, hurling themselves at the offending speaker, intimidating business partners, ticket holders, speakers. Anyone is fair game: our spouses, our friends, even our children. They are determined to destroy us whatever they may lose of their own integrity in the process.

It can be terrifying.

No such fear is created in the mind of the enemy by the conservative movement. Conservatives – donor class, thought leaders and base alike – talk a good game about revolution and resistance, but their courage so far has been largely restricted to the ballot box and social media. I’m afraid to say, they lack courage. They have been brainwashed into thinking that taking the moral high ground and sitting quietly while the enemy rampages outside will be enough. It will not. We tried playing nice and having good manners, and it has proven itself wholly ineffective.

Conservatives don’t just fail to appear in large numbers to will their vision of the good life into existence. They even lack the courage to stand up for fellow warriors in trouble. When I was banned from Twitter, I did not expect a march on Twitter’s offices in San Francisco. But now, when we have seen conservatives and libertarians systematically scrubbed from every major social network and as the reality of this new censorship finally sets in, I see complainers, not organizers.

There is no reflexive impulse to take to the streets when a conservative is wronged. It doesn’t matter if you think I’m superficial and vain and attention-seeking, or if you think Alex Jones says things that aren’t true. You don’t have to agree with everything – or even anything – a person says to angrily stand up for their right to say it. Martin Niemöller’s injunction concerning political courage has never been more relevant: if you don’t stand up for the Pamela Gellers today, it will be someone you like more tomorrow. And a month or a year from now, it will be you.

So long as this situation obtains, the Left is going to keep winning and we will never reclaim the universities or any other battleground in a culture war that will define whether America survives as a strong, free nation or sinks inexorably into decadence and decline. So long as conservatives care more about what other people think than they do striking terror into the hearts of those who would destroy this great country, the Left will emerge victorious.

CNN and antifa and the college professors indoctrinating your children do not respect the rules of engagement. They aren’t going to respect you for playing fair. They will shout you down and keep shouting until you have no more breath left in your body – unless you shout them down first. They are dedicated to your destruction and they will stop at nothing until it is achieved. When is the Right going to realize this, and act accordingly?

There are of course conservatives who are courageous. Most of the Armed Forces and law enforcement are Republicans. But they are, for good reason, prevented from acting on their political urges. It now falls on conservatives and libertarians elsewhere in society to take up the mantle of war and at last fight fire with fire.

We used to laugh at “slacktivists” – liberals who think changing their Twitter avatar was equivalent to real-world action. But it’s tough to see how today’s conservative movement is much different. If the Left were being censored, suppressed and discriminated against on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube to the extent conservatives and libertarians are, the offices of these companies would have been stormed by armed insurgents.

I am not proposing such a retaliatory measure. We can and must act within the law. But where is the million man march on Facebook for its crimes? Why is Twitter still a going concern? Are you not furious enough yet at the sociopathy and cruelty they display when they silence us – and then gloat about it?

Have conservative journalists and thought leaders really done so poor a job of explaining the stakes? The misdeeds and vicissitudes of professors, journalists, actors and politicians are nothing compared to the reality-bending power of Google, which can effectively erase a person from existence at a stroke. Do these injustices not move you? If not, what will?

We already know what these companies and individuals believe and the depths they are prepared to plumb to achieve their objectives. We have seen them assassinate the reputations of our favourite leaders and activists and destroy the livelihoods of decent Americans. How much more are they up to of which we are not even aware? Are conservatives and libertarians really going to sleepwalk to this Orwellian future, putting up no more fight than a few memes and quickly-censored Facebook statuses? The magnitude of the assault on conservative and libertarian values, on freedom, on democracy and on the Constitution itself currently being played out in the tech industry calls for action and reprisals – else we should resign ourselves to despair.

The dinosaurs in nominal charge of conservatism in America – the National Review and CPAC crowd – go out of their way to punish and ridicule conservative radicals like Pamela, Mike and me, because we have the temerity and gaucheness to step out from behind our keyboards and take to the streets. We take the tools of the Left and turn them back on our oppressors. So no, your aristocracy will not help. They believe they are safe because they have done as the Left demanded and stayed polite, well-mannered and out of trouble. They don’t care that in the process, they became utterly ineffective… so long as they stay alive.

These Vichy conservatives are worse than our enemy: they are silent collaborators with the forces of evil, ostracising and demeaning anyone who dares to stick their neck out and say or do something truly dangerous. They must be destroyed if we are to triumph over Satan.

In today’s episode of THE MILO SHOW I’ll be playing video of the Left in action on college campuses in the US and the UK, and then giving just a brief snapshot of the many conservatives driven from public life by Silicon Valley. I urge you to tune in and consider the future if we don’t act now against the tech giants and the other forces of suppression in American public life.

Protest and mass civil disobedience has been the exclusive province of the Left for decades – perhaps generations. If that doesn’t end within the next few years, all is lost. You think putting Trump in office was enough? Think again. We have two generations of war ahead, and the Left isn’t afraid of you. In fact, they’re still laughing at you. What are you going to do about it?

I think the left has gone completely insane and I am not altogether too scared of them as I cannot help but think they are utterly irrational and nonsensical and have a hard time thinking that their movement will not collapse under it’s own pressure. Preodmunatrly from its sheer lunacity and insanity.

Sharks are really, really, really stupid but if you tie a piece of meat to yourself and go swimming with them they will still eat you.

The “they’re insane and I’m not scared” line points to you very seriously not understanding the situation.

Trying to be charitable here I don’t want to attack you I’m literally trying to get you to wake up and maybe save your life.

If we are going to push back full force, yes we must commit to action. Literally. But these forces have been organizing since the 1920’s Frankfurt School and their full on communist infiltration of our society. I agree to come to action. The question I see before us is precisely WHAT is required? Becoming antiASSHATS? Or becoming effective in getting our No, We Won’t Tolerate That message out to the antiASSHATS? Please advise.

You don’t seem to understand normies, Milo.

You’re effective and brilliant because you are at heart a liberal revolutionary but you have conservative sympathies. If the year were 1642 you would be full on pressing for the exact same types of things you are today and you would be considered a wild liberal. You only get branded a conservative or libertarian or whatever today because liberalism has passed you by.

But normies aren’t like that. On the eve of the English Civil War the normies would as usual be raising families and working and going along to get a long and just want someone to tell them who to cheer for this month and don’t tax them too much and don’t kick their doors in. This is what makes them such excellent people. This is what makes them the bedrock of any culture or civilization. G.K. Chesterton understood this. You need to understand that any society, if it is to survive, needs these people more than it needs you.

If the natural conservatives were to engage in “mass civil disobedience” civilization would end. Because what you’re not saying is that you can’t protect them and nobody else is willing to. God Emperor Trump has proven that he doesn’t care about his conservative normie supporters. He won’t do anything to protect them. It would take someone like Trump saying, “Fine. I don’t care if I”m called the American Pinochet. I don’t care, I’m protecting these people no matter what it takes.” But he’s not, and nobody else who can is willing either.

So you want, what? Normies to rise up in some kind of conservative version of Leftie protest? When people like Trump clearly won’t?
Forget about the fact that they’re not ideology-crazed fanatical leftist brainwashed women’s studies majors. They’re not thinking how cool it would be to get arrested, they’re thinking they need to be up at 5 to make lunches for the kids before going to work. Forget about that mundane stuff. It’s very clear, to most of them, that any kind of resistance to their real overlords means they nuke their life. If they’re in their 20s their future careers will be ruined in a way that is unsalvageable, and probably their relationships with friends and family will be severely tested or destroyed. If they’re older, not only will they be ruined but they will ruin their children’s lives and futures. Freedom of speech doesn’t pay the bills. They’re normies, not stupid. What would they gain from deliberately seeking martyrdom? They don’t have any real power, and don’t spout some brainless platitude about the ballot box. So all they can do is call the attention of those who do have power. And, as I mentioned already, obviously nobody with power to actually do anything is willing to do what it takes.

There is no such thing as a conservative grass roots movement as such movements are commonly understood. Grass roots movements are inherently liberal.

Real conservatives are more like actual grass. They build communities and networks “underground”, in the mundane institutions people like Robert Putnam have written about. Things that are not flashy. Just normal dirt. It’s not overtly political or in-your-face. It spreads locally, in PTA meetings and church groups and poker nights, not online. In public they do what is expected of them, just like grass coming back every spring. And they get stepped on and spring back and keep at it. They get stepped on and don’t even notice because their lot in life is to be stepped on over and over and just keep going. But they don’t grow thorns. They don’t have teeth.

Then, if the civilization is fortunate because if this doesn’t happen it will die, one day a man comes along who is not a normie. Not a natural conservative. But who likes grass. And who is willing to do what it takes to make sure the grass can grow. Even if it means burning down the tree of liberty that is blocking the sun. Then you will find that the grass rises up. But not in a leftist revolutionary protest. It will still be grass. Just really, really good grass. And amazing.

Conservatism is hierarchical. It needs a leader. A hero. Until then its natural strength is simply to endure. To remain. To wait. As long as it takes.

Read some Isaiah. Hope your Lent is going well.

This is true. What normie conservitives need is the young people of the movement to rise up and do this. It wouldn’t hurt to have someone as rich as souros to pay assasins and hitsquades (not kidding). You probably won’t see normies rising up until the libs take all freedoms.

        March 8, 2018 at 3:27 am

Thanks. I want to stress that its leadership that is needed, not young people rising up. Probably young people of the movement would be the ones following such a leader, but it’s the leader, specifically, who is needed.
Unfortunately the recent examples of nominally conservative effective leaders of this caliber are all murdering genocidal sociopaths, and we all know who I’m talking about. It’s very difficult to separate the moral component out and say well yes, these were horribly bad men, but had they not been horribly bad men then what they were doing essentially worked really well. Yes they all lost wars, but that very much was not a sure thing at the time. But yes, assassins and hit squads do work. As a Christian I would never want to see that, even if I have to accept “losing” as the alternative. But the leader has to be someone who draws that line they won’t cross with a razor edge and walks it constantly.

I think the normie rise up you suggest may happen if all “freedoms” are taken away is kind of a moot point, at that point we’re not talking about any kind of reconstruction, just a fight for survival. I suspect normies on the whole would do reasonably well in surviving the hordes of Mutant Zombie Bikers, in the long run, but I mean, that’s a Pyrrhic victory to be sure.

I don’t like focusing on “freedoms”. I think that’s a red herring. Freedom as it’s commonly used is a liberal idea anyways and we ought, I think, to stop idolizing them and concentrate not on our freedoms but our responsibilities. Yes yes it’s nice to not have an occupying military force quartered in your home unwanted, but I personally don’t think such inconvenient restrictions compare at all to a liberal totalitarian Leviathan convincing mothers that the best way to be a good mother is to pay to have their pre-teen sons’ testicles chopped off.

The protesters on the left are mostly kids and people with little, if anything, to lose. The vast majority are probably unemployed or employed part-time. I do my best to have conversations with people everyday who are level-headed enough to have one. A lot of my time outside of work is devoted to staying up to date on current events and doing my own research. I realize the stakes are high. I personally don’t care about my reputation, and am proud to be hated by left wing SJW’s.

Unfortunately, it also leads to attacks on my business and income, by people with a lot of free time to do so relentlessly. Essentially it’s the same as terrorism. Someone may not have a counter argument, but then they will go home angry, and determined to attack my credibility or business. When you live in a brainwashed blue state, this is just reality. These are people with tons of energy to disrupt and destroy, but no energy or passion in fixing the issues when they have control.

        March 8, 2018 at 3:40 am

I really want to urge everyone like Kevin, don’t nuke your life to fight an unwinnable battle. You cannot win. You will lose. Maybe at some point in the future, if we build our families and churches and communities and we pray and live virtuous lives, maybe in the future, God willing soon, we will have the opportunity to rebuild what liberalism has destroyed and is destroying. And if not, then praise God, all those things are worth doing anyways.

But this requires you to survive. It requires you to persevere. This isn’t the time to fix bayonets and charge the enemy’s fortified fire platform. This is guerrilla stuff. The name of the game is survive and preserve your ability to help when the time comes – the very strategy, in fact, used by the Roman general whose name was stolen by the founders of the Fabian Society (who misinterpreted the military history they thought so inspiring, BTW, because, you know, Leftist academics.)

Sour excogitation, but not unwarranted no matter how hackneyed it’s starting to sound after a few years. Predictably, both on-site and FaceBook commenters still commit to excuses. The immediate presumption that Milo is calling for friendly neighborhood conservatarian black shirts to pick up machetes and go Filipino on trashcan abusers is too melodramatic and symptomatic of that vice of resignation. The solution is nothing so difficult as much as something I often ask about: How hard is it to just say “no?” No, we’re not cancelling mid-terms because a Republican governor was elected. No, I’m not going to take fish tacos off my little bumfuck cafe’s menu because some third generation descendant of Guatemalan immigrants in Vermont decided that reconnecting with his supposed roots meant making war at phantoms of cultural appropriation. No, I’m not going to pay attention to and take your diversity training class seriously or without question. Stop being afraid of what the neighbors might think when they’re probably on your side anyhow or otherwise apathetic.
