Speaking at CPAC on Thursday morning, NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch detailed harassment and intimidation she encountered leaving last night’s so-called “Town Hall” organized by CNN to push gun control.
The agitprop TV spectacle, scripted by CNN in wake of the school shoot in Parkland, Florida that killed 17, featured a studio audience of 5,000 who hissed and shouted against the Second Amendment.
Loesch says she would not have been able to leave the building if she didn’t have security detail.
As Real Clear Politics reports, Loesch said at a speech during CPAC, “I want to make this super obvious point. The government has proven that they cannot keep you safe. And yet, some people want all of us to disarm. You heard that town hall last night. They cheered the confiscation of firearms. And it was over 5,000 people.”
“I had to have a security detail to get out,” she continued. “I wouldn’t be able to exit that if I didn’t have a private security detail. There were people rushing the stage and screaming ‘burn her.’ And I came there to talk solutions and I still am going to continue that conversation on solutions as the NRA has been doing since before I was alive.”
After the event, one of the school shooting survivors, Colton Haab, claimed that CNN denied him from asking about armed guards in school, and instead gave him “scripted questions” for the “town hall.”
Haab shielded fellow students while the school was under attack.
“CNN had originally asked me to write a speech and questions and it ended up being all scripted,” Haab told WPLG-TV. “I don’t think that it’s going get anything accomplished. It’s not gonna ask the true questions that all the parents and teachers and students have.”
Haab then decided to not attend the “town hall.”
At CPAC, Loesch acknowledged the hypocrisy of leftists who believe President Trump is a tyrant, and yet advocate for government seizure of weapons.
“The government can’t keep you safe and some people want us to give up our firearms and rely solely upon the protection of the same government that’s already failed us numerous times to keep us safe. And then they also call Trump a tyrant but they say they want the president to also confiscate our firearms? Try to figure that one out,” Loesch said.
