An Illinois teacher who pleaded guilty to sexual assault charges for her relationship with a minor, faces another pending charge in another county.
Sarah L. Myers, 41, of Garden Prairie, Ill., received her ten-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to two counts of criminal sexual assault in Boone County. Myers taught special education as well as math at North Boone High School.
Fox News reports the mother of five is also accused of a third sexual assault in another county, where she faces pending charges.
The Rockford Register Star reports, while citing county prosecutors, Myers had been in a sexual relationship with a male student since November 2016. The student, who reported the sexual relationship in April, was not part of the teachers’ special education class.
After being made aware of her transgressions in April, the school district placed Myers on administrative leave, however, she resigned shortly after.
Although the case was set for January 8, the two sides set the plea deal and sentencing for Friday.
According to First Assistant State’s Attorney Lise Lombardo, Myers will have to serve 85 percent of her sentence and register as a sex offender for the rest of her life. The teacher received credit for 261 days spent in jail.
