FBI agents arrested an ISIS-inspired former U.S. Marine sharpshooter and preventing him from carrying out plans to terrorize San Francisco with an explosive attack during Christmas.
26-year-old Everitt Aaron Jameson was arrested this week after the FBI learned of his plans to carry out the terrorist strike. He allegedly planned to target pedestrians at San Francisco’s Pier 39 during the holiday.
A tow truck driver by trade, Jameson attended basic training in 2009 with the Marine Corps and graduated with the qualification of “sharpshooter” for his skill in firearms. He was ultimately discharged for fraudulent enlistment after he failed to disclose a history of asthma, a physical illness that would’ve prevented him from enlisting in the first place.
An affidavit written by FBI Special Agent Christopher McKinney describes Jameson’s plans to attack Pier 39 in detail, explaining that he chose the location because previously scoped it out. The agent states that Jameson “had been there before and knew it was a heavily crowded area.”
The would-be terrorist planned to carry out the attack through the use of explosives sometime between December 18 and December 25, because “Christmas was the perfect day to commit the attack,” the affidavit states.
He allegedly talked about his plans to perform the attack while speaking to an undercover FBI agent, and ultimately gave himself away.
“I’m glad to know we Muslims are finally hitting back,” Jameson allegedly said to the FBI informant. “Allahu Akbar! The Kuffar deserve everything and more the lives they have taken.”
According to the FBI, Jameson “voiced support” for the October 31 attack in New York City, when an ISIS-inspired jihadist drove a rented pickup truck through a crowded bike path. The terrorist killed eight people and injured 11 more.
Officials also discovered that Jameson had “liked” and “shared” Facebook posts in support of ISIS and terrorism. He also used the “love” button on a terrorist propaganda image depicting Santa Claus standing with a box of dynamite in the middle of New York City.
Following his arrest, he was charged in the Eastern District Court of California with attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist.
