Afghan Refugee Arrested for Melbourne Attack Blamed ‘Mistreatment of Muslims’

A senior Australian police officer has said the Afghan refugee responsible for Thursday’s terror attack in Melbourne “attributed his actions to perceived mistreatment of Muslims.”

32-year old Saeed Noori drove his car into a crowd of pedestrians on Thursday, injuring 18 people. Noori, who was arrested by an off-duty police officer after crashing the SUV on Flinders Street, arrived in Australia in 2004 under a refugee resettlement programme.

According to Shane Patton, the Acting Chief Commissioner of Victoria State Police, Noori has a history of mental illness. It has also been reported that the refugee has a criminal past and a history of drug abuse.

According to the chief inspector, Noori “spoke about dreams, he spoke about voices.”

“But he also did attribute some of his actions to the poor treatment of Muslims,” the Patton added. “I don’t know the exact detail, to do with Allah and some ramblings about ASIO (the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation).”

When asked if there was any link to terrorism, Patton said: “That’s certainly one area we’re exploring [with] respect to motivation.”

According to reports, nine foreign nationals were injured in the attack. These include tourists from South Korea, China, Italy, India, Venezuela, Ireland, and New Zealand. A four-year-old boy was also injured in the attack, according to ABC

Four people have been released from hospital, however; 14 remain with three in a critical condition, including an 84-year-old man.

The four-year-old boy, who was taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital due to a head injury, is now in a stable condition.

Breitbart reports that the man in the red checkered shirt, who was arrested after he was seen filming the incident and while in possession of three knives, had been released.

It’s religiously motivated, and the same modus operandi as multiple ISIS attacks, but the authorities are still not willing to call it terrorism.
