After a collection of wildly offensive Tweets surfaced, Josh Rivers – Rivers has been Gay Times editor for all of two weeks – claims, “These tweets from my past show a deep self-loathing,” though he offers no explanation of why he did not address them until someone else discovered them.
The tweets, some of which have been deleted, have been described as racist, transphobic, homophobic, and anti-Semitic.
Gay Times released a statement soon after the tweets emerged, confirming he had been suspended.
“Josh Rivers’ past tweets do not align with the values of Gay Times, or any of our employees, in any capacity,” the magazine said. “Josh has been suspended with immediate effect while we investigate the facts. Appropriate action will be taken in due course.”
And in another, he said: “Jews are gross. It’s the only religion with ‘ew’ in it.’ Family Guy genius before the festivities begin.”
In a message mocking a transgender person, Rivers wrote: “Look here, tranny. 1) you look like a crackhead 2) YOU’RE A TRANNY & 3) your wig doesn’t deserve a mention. Avert your eyes, honey.”
He described one woman he encountered on a train as a “chav” and called her children “incested.”
