The college is offering to pay students $8.50 per hour to “facilitate Power, Privilege, and Oppression Training, Beyond the Binary Training, and Microaggressions Trainings.”
According to an online job posting, the “Social Justice Education Facilitators” (SJEFs) will also be tasked with being a “consultant on social justice curriculum and education.”
Campus Reform reports the SJEFs will have to help “document and organize various resources on anti-oppression work” for the benefit of their fellow students as their role as “a campus leader and consultant on social justice curriculum and education.”
No work experience is required but the SJEFs will have to be at least sophomores and, at a minimum, have “knowledge on the various forms of oppression, including but not limited to: race, gender, sexuality, ability, class, citizenship.”
Social Justice doesn’t seem to pay well as the SJEFs will receive less money than many other entry-level employees on campus. At $8.50, the SJEFs wage is $0.10 less than Student Fundraising Assistants and Shuttle Team members.
The SJEFs will also be expected to work night shifts at the Multicultural Resource Center. The Multicultural Resource Center currently offers resources to undocumented students, students of color, and LGBTQ students.
The programs initial training took place in September, resulting in one person being hired for the role, however, it is likely the school hopes to recruit more.
SJEFs will be expected to work around six hours per week including weekend and night shifts.
