Scholar: People Who Don’t Date Are Victims Of ‘Asexual Microaggressions’

A Columbia University scholar recently published her Ph.D thesis on “asexual microaggressions,” claiming that it is a form of discrimination against people who don’t form romantic relationships with others. It’s an all new way to be oppressed.

Aasha Foster, a Counseling Psychology grad student invented an “Asexual Microaggressions Scale” designed to determine the frequency of microaggressions faced by people who don’t date. According to a Campus Reform article, these microaggressions include being told that asexuality is “just a phase” or being called prudish.

Other microaggressions include being told that discrimination against asexual people doesn’t exist, or that they will live alone for the rest of their lives.

In total, Foster outlined 24 different “asexual microaggressions,” and developed a questionnaire for researchers to gauge the preference of test subjects. Participants were recruited online from sites like Facebook, Tumblr, Reddit, and one called the “Asexuality Education and Visibility Network.” The majority of participants (67.07 percent) hailed from Tumblr.

For those unable to get over their romantic failures, an embrace of the asexual label allows them to find solace with like-minded individuals.

Foster called the sites “key to recruitment in the study of asexuality” but admitted that the data compiled from such participants tends to skew “towards people who have found an online community of people who think or feel similarly and have access to more information about asexual community issues.”

In other words, recruiting from an ideological echo chamber tends to color the results.

According to Foster, the research is important because microaggressions, she claims, cause “psychological distress,” “emotional difficulty,” and “depressive symptoms.” She adds that asexual individuals deal with higher rates of anxiety and stress than heterosexual people due to stigma and marginalization.

To fight against this, Foster is advocating for the normalization of asexuality, stating that “further study of the impact of these microaggressions and macroaggressive experiences would be another area of next steps.”

The researcher also calls on researchers to embrace an “intersectional” approach that incorporates other venues of oppression, as most of her research candidates were “young white women” who may not share the experiences of others.

I’m thinking that if students want free education, that any degree that’s unemployable (anything with the word liberal in it), should be free and the professors get paid nothing.

As a person who is asexual and has been for over a decade now I can tell you, I have never had anyone microaggress against me in any way – no one cares.

I have 2 decades as asexual. Not a single micro-aggression against me. I made a choice. Dating is expensive, and emotionally draining. It isn’t for everyone. This lady needs to shut the hell up.

Unless I spend time in the company or hear news about peoples’ partners, I haven’t got a clue about who is asexual among all the people I know. I have enough to be doing dealing with my own sexual life or lack of it to either know or care about anybody else’s.

No, it’s not a “micro-aggression” that you’re a fat smelly cow that no one wants to date. That’s on you.

This snowflake generation is the death of true scholarship.

    microaggressions (plural noun)
a statement, action, or incident regarded as an instance of indirect, subtle, or unintentional discrimination against members of a marginalized group such as a racial or ethnic minority:
“students posed with dry-erase boards documenting their experiences with microaggressions on campus”
indirect, subtle, or unintentional discrimination against members of a marginalized group:
“they are not subject to daily acts of microaggression” So the only ones who can decided if a microaggression has occurred is some crazy idiot who chooses to be offended. Being offended is ALWAYS a CHOICE.

Here is what that scale actually is, and follow closely here. It’s actually a scale measuring how “offensive” speech is according to the person hearing the speech. This scale is not based upon anything demonstrable, it just measures gradations of felling like outrage and disgust albeit with different words masking the true intent.

A great example of this is if you where to tell me that I’m wrong here. That’s a microagression against my free speech and it would also be opinion shaming. See how that works? Essentially no one can criticize, say they don’t like something or whatever else, except if they’re saying something in support of leftist causes. So calling someone a homophobe is okay, but calling someone obese isn’t okay. Why? ‘Cuz liberals say so!

it used to be called Chastity, and it has always been a Virtue. I know exactly how it feels to be told nasty things about myself because i choose not to engage in promiscuous behavior, and wish to only be involved with that one special person. it’s daunting to be surrounded by these piranhas, who engage in serial relationships , use and misuse their sex partners before discarding them, and have multiple fathers of kids, etc. Even my brother echoed that idiotic mindset by saying i ought to become a nun. Yeah right, how clueless. Either a Nun or a slut like my sisters, really? that ‘s the only choices? i beg to differ. I will have my Other Half, not some random stand-in, thank you very much. I already learned how devastating it can be to marry Mr Wrong and have kids with him. They and I suffered extreme harm, and the whole thing was just not right from the beginning. NEVER again.

That’s the problem with SJW weirdos in out-of-touch academia. You can’t normalize something experienced by a minuscule minority of students.

It’s like trying to normalize a piece of bread with peanut butter by simply dropping a micron of it over on the edge. Real normalization is organic. Example: You can’t *not* normalize president Trump. He was normalized as president when 60 million people voted for him. But you cannot normalize an SJW freak of nature because normal people by definition don’t dye their hair blue, hoard cats, and hate modernity (SJWs are a tiny fraction of the left, who themselves in all their various flavors only account for 20% of Americans).

it is funny how the more left labels people, the more dysfunctional the world gets. Its as if choosing to label people steals their individuality. Oh wait, that is exactly the point of labels.

    • Paul Smith

      October 10, 2017 at 2:41 pm

Without new labels, older ones become little more than hackneyed manipulative cliché’s that lose their effectiveness. Hence the need to create new ones. Case in point, try calling someone a racist these days to see how much it bothers them.

  27. Passenger_Zero

    October 9, 2017 at 10:51 am

They want us all to be victims.
Some people choose not to date for reasons such as small children and the rate of Step parent abuses or because they want to focus on themselves for a while or because they are ugly.

That doesn’t make them a victim.

  28. Steve O

    October 9, 2017 at 12:25 pm

I think I see the pattern.
    – People exhibit an abnormal behavior
    – People suffer because they are abnormal
    – We must therefore declare the abnormal to be normal.
