Enraged fans accuse Strictly Come Dancing of racism after ex-Holby city star Chizzy Akudolu becomes first to leave the show.
Akudolu and her partner, Pasha Kovalev, were placed in the bottom two after they failed to impress the public on Strictly Come Dancing. They were forced to face off against comedian Brain Conley and his partner, Amy Dowden, for the chance to stay in the competition. Unfortunately, Chizzy was unable to woo the judges. Three out of the four judges voted to save Brain Conley.
However, viewers did not agree with that the decision. They called both the judges and the public “racist” for not voting for the Chizzy, claiming she was only in the bottom two because she is a black woman. One fan said that black people “always seem to be the first to leave” and another claimed there was a “racist voting pattern.”
Chizzy had placed in the middle of the leaderboard based on the judges’ scores, however after the public’s votes were accounted for, she dropped to the bottom.
This isn’t the first time the show’s fans have accused other viewers of being racist. The same thing happened last year when three non-white contestants were the first people to leave the show.
One particular incident last season made several headlines. Singer Anastacia refused to dance again, after she was placed in the bottom two, due to a sprained ankle. As a result, British-Ghanaian DJ radio Melvin Odoom got booted off after judges decided to let the person with the most votes stay. However, people felt Odoom was unfairly kicked off.
“Melvin Odoom was kicked off Strictly Come Dancing this weekend for one reason alone: people are racist,” one Mirror Online Columnist wrote.
Chizzy Akudolu has not commented on the situation yet.
