‘STEMinist’ Freshmen Promise Free Bubble-Wrap And Play-Doh In Class Presidency Campaign

Two feminist freshmen at Columbia University are trying to bribe their fellow students with “Legos, Bubble-Wrap, and Play-Doh” in an attempt to win class presidency.

The “STEMinists” Michael Shamma and Riya Desai, are aiming to become Class President and Vice President of the freshmen class at Columbia School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS).

“Do you want Legos, Bubble Wrap, and Play-Doh?” their campaign flyer reads. “If so, vote for the STEMinists.”

Desai and Shamma have vowed to help students experience a “fun and memorable time” at Columbia by hosting events that involve toys and games, as long as they’re “academically relevant.”

Desai, who hails from Cleveland, Ohio, has said the “STEMinists” initially had nothing to do with feminism. However, they still aim to empower women.

“Our name STEMinists came from the fact that we are all engineers. We all take STEM courses,” Desai told Campus Reform. “Many people thought it was a play on feminism, and so it wasn’t intentionally meant to be, but now looking at it, there’s a lot more women in engineering.”

If the duo comes into power, they hope to sponsor events that are partially focused on feminism but primarily focused on fun. “We really want to reach out to the freshmen class, and let them know that school has a fun side to it,” Desai said. “We will, as a party, promise to create a fun environment.”

“We would do events to destress. But we’d want them to be academically relevant,” Desai continued. “For example, we’d want to create a Lego area where engineers can go and build their ideas, and it’ll be fun. One of the activities we’d also plan on doing is giving out free Bubble Wrap.”

The voting closed last Friday and the duo will have a tough time beating another duo called  Sail The Seven SEAS, as they have vowed to provide a free ‘pet-therapy’ area if elected.

“…and it’ll be fun” (mentioned six times)

Any time someone has to say “it’ll be fun,” more than likely it won’t

The upside is there’s a move to make more women scientists.

Eh, as long as they’re taking proper STEM/professional courses, let ’em fart around with kid stuff in their free time. And I mean c’mon, who doesn’t love bubble wrap?

I can’t quite remember the last time I was offered play-doh and bubble wrap at one of the factory jobs I’ve worked in the past. This liberal college utopia of life sounds great, where do I sign up to send my entire paycheck to the government so it can take care of me?

I wish 18 year olds in any major would find better ways to socialize. Are these two trying to keep all male STEM students virgins?
