Sadiq Khan compared Trump’s language to that of Islamic State’s, and said that it would be wrong to host President Trump on a state visit due to his “ignorant” views on Muslims.
Sadiq Khan made it clear he has taken offense to the proposed ‘Muslim ban’ President Trump put forward during his campaign, however Trump said he would make an exception for Sadiq Khan. Khan criticized Trump at the Guardian Live event at the Labour party conference in Brighton.
“My view was firstly ‘I’m not exceptional’ and secondly ‘Think about what you are saying.’ Because what you are saying is not dissimilar to what Daesh or so-called IS says.
“They say that there is a clash of civilisations, it is not possible to be a Muslim and a westerner, and the west hates us. And you are inadvertently playing their game, you are helping them.”
Khan called himself a ‘reluctant participant’ in his spat with President Trump despite him throwing jabs Trump before he was even a candidate.Khan went on to say later on in the evening that he thought that President Trump’s planned state visit is wrong.
Khan went on to say later on in the evening that he thought that President Trump’s planned state visit is “wrong.”
This is not the first time Khan has voiced his objection to Trump’s visit. Khan called for Trump’s visit to be canceled after Trump criticized him on Twitter after the London Bridge terrorist attack. Trump accused Khan of making a “pathetic excuse” for his “no reason to be alarmed” statement.
“I don’t think we should roll out the red carpet to the president of the USA in the circumstances where his policies go against everything we stand for,”
“When you have a special relationship it is no different from when you have got a close mate. You stand with them in times of adversity but you call them out when they are wrong. There are many things about which Donald Trump is wrong.”
President Trump’s state visit to England is still going ahead.
