Couple Offended When Restaurant Labels Them ‘Lesbians’ on Their Receipt

A same-sex couple was outraged in Wales on Thursday when a restaurant labeled them “lesbians” on their receipt.

Belinda Mulcahy and Jo James were celebrating Belinda’s birthday at a restaurant in Northern Wales. The couple was sitting alone together and were outraged, when presented with a bill at the end of their meal, to find their server had labeled them “lesbians,” reported PinkNews.

Jo quickly took off her tool belt, tucked in her plaid shirt, and complained to management (okay that didn’t happen but it’s nice to believe.)

“Even though it’s true, they were outraged by it. Why on earth would they put on a receipt? I can’t imagine they’d write Jews or Blacks or even Disabled,” a friend of the couple said to Pink News.

“Belinda looked at me and she said, ‘Are you alright?’ I showed her and she was speechless,” James said to Diva Magazine. “We hadn’t done anything overt. We hadn’t been kissing at the bar or holding hands. We could have been friends. We could have been relations.”

“We could have been a whole host of things. So the fact he decided to identify us as lesbians was a bit horrifying,” she continued. “We were shocked at how stupid this man had been. I don’t know what upon earth possessed the staff member a) to write it and b) to hand me the receipt with it on.”

According to the restaurant, the staff member was verbally reprimanded and the ladies were offered complimentary drinks but they claim it’s not enough.

The restaurant clearly had very little experience handling lesbian outrage, the only appropriate retribution is either a gift card to Home Depot or tickets to some unfunny feminist comedienne like Ellen DeGeneres.

Yes. According to the story the women say it’s true. But they do make a good point in that putting “black guy” or “Jew” or “Fat lady” would also be seen negatively. I get why the server did it. That helps them to remember on a busy day where it goes, but most places just have table numbers for that. So, yes they are, but I still think it’s not called for.

            Unless you’re on table 69 or 14 or 88 or 13.

My wife and I shared a 69 in the Chinese restaurant we went to yesterday. Special fried rice noodles.

Staff-side notes aren’t supposed to be printed on the public tab, either. I feel sorry for them for having a POS system written by a moron.

What’s wrong with being called “black guy?” If you’ve got a top with 12 people and want to keep the tickets straight what is wrong with descriptors? It isn’t just about keeping track of the table, it’s keeping track of the individuals at that table. What if you’re running a busy shift where two servers are both helping out, you both have to know who ordered what.

Now sure you’d have a reason to be angry if the tab said “nigger that isn’t going to tip anyway” but “black guy?” Especially if he’s the token black friend in a table of white college kids? He’s black. So what. It would be more racist to just remember that he was the one that ordered the chicken wings. And he’s sitting next to the fat girl, chad popped-collar, and the skinny guy that ordered the avocado toast.

Im always confused about Lesbian vs Gay.

why is there a LGBT thing, as Lesbians ARE gay. GBT would work.

and T should be a M, for Mental. so GBM is the best symbol.

I’ve always just used the term gay to cover all of them (well, except trans I suppose), but then again I personally believe that human sexuality (not gender) is far more complex then a “toggle switch” and no-one is 100% straight or 100% gay whether they’d admit it or not.

            Here, since I’m sure that would be far too much work for you since you’d rather be offended, I’ll even repost the entire conversation here;

            ME:

I’ve always just used the term gay to cover all of them (well, except trans I suppose), but then again I personally believe that human sexuality (not gender) is far more complex then a “toggle switch” and no-one is 100% straight or 100% gay whether they’d admit it or not.

tl:dr … luckyflesh missed the original disclaimer where I spelt out the fact that I was talking about my personal beliefs, and when that was pointed out we had a nice light, fluffy, and fun conversation.

          October 5, 2017 at 5:42 pm

I’d have to disagree, there is a difference between sexual preferences (and I’ve already expressed my views that everyone is too some degree bisexual although I expect every guy to kneejerk disagree) and believing that your body is “wrong” as the latter is a mental illness whether it involves gender, species, or the number of limbs you have.

          • True.Epic.Crusader

            October 5, 2017 at 5:45 pm

Sure, but it’s gay in some way no matter how you slice it: imagine a boy who thinks that he’s a girl, and acts accordingly.
If he believes he is a straight girl, he will get together with boys (thus be gay, since he is really a boy). However, if he believes to be a lesbian girl, he will get together with girls, thus, not TRULY be gay, but be gay in his own view.
So either way there’s some weird-ass gay sh* t going on.

Well, it must have been somehow obvious, because the server called it, even if they didn’t kiss at the table. I guess they couldn’t have been just friends because it turns out their were in fact lesbians and the server could somehow tell.

And well, isn’t the whole LGBT movement agenda, to flaunt sexuality in public in PRIDE parades? It seems they enjoy identifying publicly using their sexuality more than using who they are as people and persons. So why should it be offensive when they are labeled exactly what they are, lesbians?

The term “Lesbian” originates from the Island of Lesbos because many centuries ago, it was a hive for women having sex with women.

      • Rusty Esq

        September 1, 2017 at 4:07 pm

According to the BBC, “Born on Lesbos in the sixth century before Christ, Sappho was a poet, a muse and is claimed by some to be the world’s first feminist. She became such a gay icon that her birthplace was adopted internationally as a name”

So, you are offended that someone correctly identified you? Isn’t that what the LGBT agenda is about? I mean, the LGBT demands recognition in movies, games, and stories, yet when someone recognizes them in public they are offended. You cant have it both ways, and you can’t say this group gets recognized and this group does not. Besides what is the big deal? You know who you are. Why do you choose to become upset over what someone thinks? You received no injury. No damage was done.

They were offered free drinks because the employee did something stupid. Exactly what would they think was enough? Why is it everyone thinks that their being offended means the person should always lose their livelihood? What exactly do they think they were entitled? After all, they were lesbians. It’s not like he wrote lesbians on the bill and they were straight. Although, as a straight woman if my friends and I had that written on our bill we’d probably set the guy straight that we weren’t lesbians and laugh the whole thing off.

People make mistakes. They have moments where they say or do something stupid or out of character.

Never happy… when no one acknowledges them they get up in arms, then when someone acknowledges them they still get up in arms… first time I ever saw a restaurant receipt that labeled a description of the customers, unless it was a reservation party or large group.

Wait, I thought them being lesbians was their whole identity, now you’re saying it’s not?

““We hadn’t done anything overt. We hadn’t been kissing at the bar or holding hands. We could have been friends. We could have been relations.””

Mhhhhh, I suspect it was obvious because of what you look like!
Let me guess… fat, ugly, bulldog-y, short hair, tattoos. Pick any you like or any combination.

So they WERE lesbians anyway. And they’re offended? I thought that being gay was a badge of honor to liberals but whenever you mention it, they’re offended. Something’s definitely off with the marxist message. They’re offended when you say it, they’re offended when you don’t. Basically, they’re constantly offended.

The only people I know who get offended if their called gay or lesbian when they’re not are homophobic. I used to work as a bouncer and bartender in a few pretty rough clubs in Chicago. On my nights off, my girlfriend and I or myself and a few of the other guys I worked with would go to a gay club or an “alternative” night at one of the other clubs. Reason being, interesting people, great music, fun time and most of all NO FIGHTS. It never bothered me or anyone I was with if anyone thought we were gay. If asked, we simply said we weren’t and that was it. Hell, one time I was at an “alternative” night with a buddy and we got free drinks all night because the bartender thought my buddy was cute. I even gave my buddy shit, wanting to know what made him cuter than me and the bartender thought it was funny because we were having a “lovers quarrel”. All these people getting offended with labels is stupid. If you know who you are as a person and you’re comfortable with who you are, then why worry about what other people say or think of you. If it’s truly offensive what ever happened to the old “Sticks and Stones” saying?
