Senator Kamala Harris: It Is ‘Past Time’ To Ban Assault Weapons

Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) believes it is “past time” to ban ownership of “assault weapons.”

According to Harris, public safety is her motivation. If that is the case, maybe Harris should push for a knife ban considering the FBI reports nearly three times more people are killed via stabbings than being shot with a rifle, of any kind, or shotgun — combined.

Breitbart News reports that the FBI’s 2015 Uniform Crime Report (UCR) showed the number of people killed by rifles, of any kind, and shotguns were approximately 548 in 2015. The number of people killed by being stabbed is nearly three times that amount at 1,573.

548 is the approximated number of people killed by rifles and shotguns combined, meaning that the actual number of deaths caused by “assault weapons” would be less than the statistic given, yet Harris only has ‘public safety’ in mind.

Between the years of 1994 and 2004, the United States had a federal “assault weapon” ban which resulted in an unnoticeable impact on crime.

Breitbart News reports that even the “assault weapon” ban the Democrats want to reinstate was a lie. The ban did not prohibit “assault weapons,” only weapons with certain cosmetic features.

Even The New York Times admitted this was the case when it ran a column explaining “assault weapons” is a myth that was created in the 1990’s by the Democrats.

According to The New York Times, America was “suffering from a spike in gun crime…in the early 1990s” so the “Democrats created and banned [an entire] category of guns.”

A “detailed study found no proof,” that the decline in crime during the time of the ban was down to the ban itself.

People with a mixture of views on the subject responded to Harris’ tweet.
