Leftist Columnist Claims Not Letting Non-citizens Vote Is “Apartheid”

A leftist writer for The Sacramento Bee is claiming “mass disenfranchisement” of non-U.S. citizens and is pushing for a larger movement to combat it.

“President Donald Trump claims California allowed millions of noncitizens to vote in the 2016 elections,”  Joe Mathews writes in his article for The Sacramento Bee. “This allegation, while totally bogus, has put California on the defensive as Trump uses the lie to justify a new federal commission devoted to making it harder for all Americans to vote.”

Already, Mathews has made a mistake. He claims that the allegation President Trump made about California allowing noncitizens to vote was ‘bogus’, however, new data released on August 1 proves the claim to be correct.

According to the new report by Judicial Watch, 11 California counties have more registered voters than eligible voters.

San Diego County had 38 percent more registered voters than people who are legally allowed to vote while San Francisco County had 14 percent.

The other counties with discrepancies were: Imperial (2%), Lassen (2%), Los Angeles (12%), Monterey (4%), San Mateo (11%), Santa Cruz (9%), Solano (11%), Stanislaus (2%), and Yolo (10%).

“Californians should go on offense – by embracing Trump’s ugly lie and transforming it into a beautiful civic truth,” Mathews suggests.  “Let’s make our state more democratic – by guaranteeing California’s noncitizens the right to vote in local and state elections.”

“In this country, there is no constitutional prohibition against noncitizens voting; states decide who gets to vote. For most of American history, voting by noncitizens was commonplace,” he continues.  “Given Trump’s threats both to immigrants and democracy, this is the moment to give the franchise back to noncitizens.”

“We Californians tolerate this apartheid, even though the lesser status of noncitizens – especially the 2 million-plus undocumented Californians – makes them more vulnerable to abuse and removal from the country they’ve helped build,” claims Mathews.

“But U.S. Supreme Court precedent is unchanged; states can let noncitizens vote if they choose. While Congress explicitly outlawed noncitizen voting in federal elections, the door remains open for local and state elections,” he says before adding “California should walk through that door.”

“And, yes, establishing noncitizen voting would escalate California’s war with Trump. So what? Trump will attack California whether we let noncitizens vote or not,” he says in conclusion. “California’s position should be clear and just: universal suffrage means universal suffrage. And if America is going to call itself a democracy, the country ought to have one state that is an actual democracy.”

Judicial Watch has said in its report that California is failing to comply with the voter registration list maintenance requirements of Section 8 of the NVRA (National Voter Registration Act of 1993).”

The watchdog organization has also sent a letter to California authorities urging them to do something to fix the situation, or face lawsuits.

“It is urgent that California take reasonable steps to clean up its rolls. We will sue if officials fail to act,” wrote Judicial Watch President Thomas Fitton.

Considering the new report by Judicial Watch, unlike what Mathews claims, it doesn’t seem to matter whether illegal immigrants have the right to vote as they do it anyway.

So he does not realize that he is asking California to make it legal for all those red state voters to take a vacation in California during local and state elections to vote against the people he wants in…
Make it legal, put up a voter initiative to force the dissection of the state, LA and SF Exit vote…

It’s really quite depressing that someone in his position can be so openly stupid and not suffer any consequences — because so much of the public is also just as stupid.
