Walmart Under Fire Over Wig Cap With Racial Slur As A Product Description

Walmart has come under fire for a wig cap sold on its website, the color of which was described using a racial slur.

A Twitter user by the name of Kwani Lunis appears to have been the first to draw attention to the product listing.

Her tweet promptly went viral, amassing plenty of stunned replies.

According to Yahoo Beauty, the cap – which was sold by a third-party vendor on Walmart.com – has since been removed.

Yahoo Beauty quotes a Walmart spokesperson as stating, “we are very sorry and appalled that this third-party seller listed their item with this description on our online marketplace. It is a clear violation of our policy, and has been removed, and we are investigating the seller to determine how this could have happened.”

Yahoo Beauty goes on to point out that this is not the first time Walmart has come under fire for odd third-party product descriptions on its website.

In December 2016, the company caught heat for a “got retard?” mug.

A Voactiv report, also from December 2016, details another offensive mug, which stated “got Hitler?”

Both were allegedly sold by a company called JM Holdings. In light of the controversy, the company claimed its mugs are generated using “lists of words directly from the dictionary,” adding that while “we try our best” to avoid sticky situations, “some words do slip through the cracks.”

Either the seller entered it or somebody the seller hired to enter it.

I take it the wig hats were made in China and something important got lost in translation. Nevertheless, Walmart, get your act together!

Go to Walmarts website and type in “n!gger”. There’s 14 pages of product listings with the name…most of it targeted at the black community. Slightly ironic the word is loved so much within their community, but any hint the word might not be used by blacks is instant racism.

The products come from Taiwan and that is the color name they use. They have no clue that it is offensive to some.

Why does Walmart allow third-parties to write the ads for Walmart anyways?

Because Walmart is an international retailer. Outsourcing to advertising companies is what all retailers of a certain size do, and they can fire those companies faster than they can hire new internal staff.

Niger a word that is not the N word. It is either from the Nigerian language and or from the french word Niger which is a name of a town. Most likely it was a miscommunication or translation mistake by the computer or phone because typing the Niger word into the internet actually brings up the N word. Presumptions are the actions of the uneducated. By all means lets have a cow before education.

Colgate’s best-selling toothpaste brand in Asia for decades was “Darkie”. They have renamed it “Darlie” (in Chinese it’s called “Black Person Toothpaste”) but the smiling face is still the same. Maybe it’s supposed to be a coal miner.

If they had one called “whitey brown” it would be perfectly acceptable and no one would squeal;) Cry me a river!! We walked on eggshells for eight miserable years because 0 was the supposed first black prez. IMO, thru much research from books, etc., he was the first half white/half muzzie. Hello Indonesia, where he spent his formative years before going to grandparents about grade eight.

I remember years ago Rush was talking about an American Indian high school reservation basketball team that called itself the fighting white-ties. they thought it would offend the white community and put pressure on it to remove team names related to indians. they could not make the shirts fast enough to supply the demand from all over the country.

Clearly a slur. I mean, what color is “nigger brown”? That’s oxymoronic. “Nigger” is a southern bastardization of “negro”, which is an anglicization of the Spanish “negro” (NAY-groe), which means “black”. All the claims that the Chinese don’t know the significance of the word is bullstuff. Unfortunately, some orientals can be ostentatiously racist.

Read the rest of the description, that’s Engrish from some random online translating software. Funny though ^_^

I have seen this before, (and maybe this is the case here) when outdated Chinese translator software uses the words “Nigger-brown” for “Dark Brown” when labeling the items they make. Usually it is caught and corrected.
