Harvard Poll: Majority Of Americans Agree, We Need To Move On From Trump/Russia Nonsense

A poll conducted by Harvard University has found that around two-thirds of Americans believe ongoing Russia investigations are “hurting the country” and a majority believe that the media and Congress need to “move on to other issues.”

According to The Hill, which has obtained the poll exclusively, 64% of “voters said the investigations into President Trump and Russia are hurting the country” while 56% “said it’s time for Congress and the media to move on to other issues, compared to 44 percent who said the focus should stay on Russia.”

According to the poll, 73% of voters said “they’re concerned that the Russia probes have caused Congress to lose focus on the issues important to them. That figure encompasses 81% of Republicans, 74% of independents and 68% of Democrats.”

The poll’s co-director Mark Penn reportedly said that “while the voters have a keen interest in any Russian election interference, they are concerned that the investigations have become a distraction for the President and Congress that is hurting rather than helping the country.”

“Most voters believe that the president’s actions don’t rise to the level of impeachable offences, even if some of them were inappropriate,” he added.

The poll comes in the wake of the NBC News/Wall Street Journal survey that shows half of Americans believe the coverage on the investigation has been “irresponsible/overdramatized.”

63% of Democrats think the Russia coverage has been “responsible/proper,” while 89% of Republicans and 48% of Independents believe the coverage has been “irresponsible/overdramatized.”

According to the poll, 16% of Democrats believe the coverage has been “irresponsible/overdramatized,” while the same amount of Democrats believe the media has been “too restrained.”

The poll that was conducted by Harvard-Harris between June 19-21 “is a collaboration of the Harvard Center for American Political Studies and The Harris Poll,” and the survey’s “partisan breakdown is 35% Democrat, 29% Republican, 30% independent and 6% other.”
