Obama Under Fire Following Otto Warmbier’s Death

Following news of Otto Warmbier’s death earlier today, former U.S. President Barack Obama has come under fire for his perceived inaction in bringing the 22-year-old home from North Korea while he was in office.

As the BBC reports, Warmbier – who spent 15 months in captivity after allegedly stealing a propaganda sign from a hotel – returned to the U.S. last Tuesday, at which point his family learned that he had been in a coma for a year.

According to the BBC, North Korean officials stated that the coma was a result of botulism – a fact U.S. doctors disputed, stating he had been suffering from severe brain damage.

Tragically, earlier today, Warmbier’s family stated, “it is our sad duty to report that our son, Otto Warmbier, has completed his journey home. Surrounded by his loving family, Otto died today at 2:20pm.”

The statement reportedly added, “the awful torturous mistreatment our son received at the hands of the North Koreans ensured that no other outcome was possible beyond the sad one we experienced today.”

According to CNN, Warmbier traveled to North Korea in 2016 as part of the Young Pioneer Tours travel group, “a company that takes participants to places they wouldn’t normally go.”

Prior to his son’s death, Fred Warmbier stated that Obama had not done enough to bring the 22-year-old home.

“When Otto was first taken, we were advised by the past administration to take a low profile while they worked to obtain his release,” he said at a press conference last week upon learning his son would be freed, as Breitbart reports.

“We did so, without result. Earlier this year, Cindy and I decided the time for strategic patience was over, and we made a few media appearances and traveled to Washington to meet with Ambassador Joe Yun at the State Department,” he continued.

As for the Trump administration, Fred Warmbier said he was “extremely grateful for their efforts and concern,” adding that President Donald Trump called him personally to discuss Otto last Wednesday night.

See Fred Warmbier’s remarks below.

Meanwhile on Twitter, many are critical of Obama following news that Otto Warmbier has died.

Also under heavy criticism, suitably so, is North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un.

“Let us state the facts plainly,” said Arizona Senator John McCain following Otto Warmbier’s death, as Business Insider reports.

“Otto Warmbier, an American citizen, was murdered by the Kim Jong-un regime. In the final year of his life, he lived the nightmare in which the North Korean people have been trapped for 70 years: forced labor, mass starvation, systematic cruelty, torture, and murder.”

According to Fox News, President Donald Trump stated, “Melania and I offer our deepest condolences to the family of Otto Warmbier on his untimely passing,” adding that “the United States once again condemns the brutality of the North Korean regime as we mourn its latest victim.”

Fox News further states that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson also holds North Korea accountable for Warmbier’s “unjust imprisonment” and issued a demand for North Korea to release three other Americans it is holding captive.

Liberal comment sections were making fun of his death under the premise that black men are routinely murdered in the streets for no reason. As if that means he deserved what happened to him. I’ve been on liberal sites just to read what they are saying and I have to say they are just evil with no compassion. I’m sure their not talking about the black gangs murdering each other. I don’t go out much to those sites anymore because I get so angry, and when I do go out, I don’t write any comments. Sick of hearing “murdered black” when they are killing their own unborn. It’s those butt heads that make it bad for the good blacks.

      • Pat Patrix

        June 19, 2017 at 8:47 pm

They’ve not only made being nasty, vulgar, and vile normalized, they compete over who can be the worst. Meanwhile I’ve been noticing a more diversity of opinion on conservative sites because they don’t censor their comment sections as heavily. You’ll find nasty people sure, but unlike liberal sites, you’ll find people standing up against it too instead of patting each other on the backs like a bunch of narcissist’s.

          June 19, 2017 at 8:54 pm

Both sides have that BUT the left is just vicious and hateful. I’ve also seen where a Democrat will respond to one of their comments saying that they are the reason they have left the Democrat Party. What this boy did over in North Korea was just a foolish stunt and he didn’t deserve to die for it. I head on the news that they were ruling out him being beat because of no scars to the brain but they thought he may have been deprived of oxygen which would have caused the coma. I blame Obama for this one. He did nothing.

What happened to Otto Warmbier was so wrong in every way. His own country failed him thanks to Obama. Obama left other’s that were in prisoner in North Korea and Iran. He never included the prisoner’s in Iran in the Iran deal. He paid a hefty amount of money to finally get them out when everybody went into an uproar about them not being a part of the deal. Oh and let’s not forget the traitor Bergdahl. As Obama said, “We never leave a man behind”. He should have said “We never leave a traitor behind”.

    • Unlucky#

      June 20, 2017 at 1:48 am

It’s worse than that. He and his family were steeped in the Obama administration’s politically correct foreign policies and thought that North K. was just another normal tourist destination and not the hellhole that it is. And yet, liberals shamelessly mock and belittle this man’s death when the responsibility is all on them. This is absolutely monstrous.

I voted for Trump and had/have a lot of problems with Obama, but I’m unclear what, exactly, triggered this kid’s release, and the best answer I can get is “Google it.”

Honestly i asked the same thing, myself. On the flip side, we do know at this point that Trump’s administration is now working to get the other 3 back. If they had anything, they either would’ve showed us by now, or, at least, told us better search terms than what we’re using. For example, when i tell people about George Zimmerman and media frenzy, i say “Look up Sherman Wares, as that’ll get you the answer.”

          • Pearlbuck

            June 20, 2017 at 6:58 pm

The Zimmerman case was such an expose of liberal idiocy. I was talking to a Bernie supporter–woman about 30, self righteous SJW–and when she brought up Zimmerman as a white male, I said: “He’s not white. ” I thought she was going to have a stroke. “In fact,” I said, “You could actually say he’s African America.” She said, “You’re a f-in idiot!!!!!!!!”

If Obama had a son, it’s actually possible that he’d look a lot like Zimmerman.

“On June 6, State Department special representative Joseph Yun learned of Warmbier’s deteriorating health in a meeting with North Korean UN Mission Ambassador Pak Kil-yon in New York City, the senior State Department official said.”

So basically, North Korea reached out to the U.S. because they knew the kid was going to die.

            June 21, 2017 at 1:20 am

I finally realized why you wanted me to research this so deeply–it’s because you wanted me to educate you on the situation. Ok, here you go:

“Some attributed Warmbier’s release to the Trump administration’s greater assertiveness, though this administration has no more leverage than its predecessor. A U.S. diplomat held talks with the DPRK, but his writ supposedly was limited to the four incarcerated Americans. If the president made a deal, the administration has not disclosed what was given in return.

While Washington demanded Warmbier’s release, it did so only after the North Koreans unilaterally disclosed his condition. Moreover, the president didn’t similarly demand the release of the other three U.S. citizens, presumably because he knew the answer would be no.

While in the North last week, I asked if the government sent Warmbier home as a conciliatory gesture to the Trump administration. The unequivocal response was that it was strictly a humanitarian matter. In fact, a Foreign Ministry official told me that a court had released Warmbier, rejecting any inference that the DPRK sought a diplomatic opening to Washington.”

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who helped push for Warmbier’s release, said the United States holds North Korea “accountable” for an unjust imprisonment.
The North Korean government said he fell into a coma after contracting botulism and taking a sleeping pill in March 2016. But US doctors said they found no evidence of the illness.

North Korea is the worst nation on earth, and if we can find a way to get regime change there, great. They probably beat the poor kid into a coma. My position, though, is always the truth over The Narrative, and I see no evidence that Trump “made” Korea release this kid.

I did not say Trump MADE Korea release this kid. HOWEVER he did make an effort and had Tillerson intervene negotiating with the whacko dictator. Which is SOOOO much more than Obama did, which was NOTHING! He told the parents to keep a low profile while the government worked on it. When in fact, they did NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING. So just give some credit where it is due. They did not strong arm the ditzy dictator, but they at least attempted negotiation. And Korea released him to avoid having him die there. They called it a humanitarian basis, lol. It would have been humane if they had released him when he was still treatable.

1.) Obama was a wild radical on social issues, and seemed bent on destroying traditional American culture. And i kind of hated for that.

2.) Hilary is a pig. Period. End of story. Should never, ever be president.

3.) The things the MSM vilified Trump for the most were wonderful positions–immigration reform, etc.–and I supported him for president. And lost friends over. it.

4.) I don’t really think Trump has anything to do with the release of that kid. I think Korea feared the PR that would happen if he died in their country.

Adopting this kind of mentality is asinine and irresponsible. If you die in a car accident, should your family not “feel that bad” because you were stupid enough to get in a car? I agree that going to N. Korea was pretty dumb, but the kid was barely old enough to drink, so having a sense of invulnerability is pretty expected — and if we’re going to be honest, we all do some pretty dumb things.

So feel bad, if not for him then at least for his family. This was a young man who lost his life because some fat psychopath who reportedly never defecates is one of our world leaders.

Acknowledge the problem. Bash everyone involved who did nothing.
Think critically about how it was handled and why it reached the unfortunate conclusion that it did.

That’s how we find a solution.

Those parents, imagine the emotional roller coaster , getting your son back, just so he could die in your arms……. sad, what a shitty way to go over a poster of a fat fuck

I’m so sorry that he died. But at least he died on US soil and not in North Korea. And his family was with him. God bless and watch over his family.

He had no problem getting the deserter Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl home to the rose garden no less.Nor releasing by pardon the traitor Chelsea Manning. I guess this kid would have done better if he was a traitor that Obama could hurt America with. That was always his MO hurt the USA, castigate, despise denigrate the US.AS for real prisoners he could have cared less, like even letting an ambassador die. His nightly sleep was more important

Sorry, but I can’t join the circle jerk. The NorKs killed him, not Obama. Wambier also placed himself at risk by a) traveling there and b) trying to steal a propaganda sign from his room. Plenty of reasons to loathe Obama. This isn’t one.

If Obama had a son he wouldn’t look like Otto, so that explains it.

Obama cares about nothing but Obama. That’s been clear since before he ever held public office.

Expecting him to care about some kid who tore down a banner?

Obama is responsible for so much misery and division in the nation as well as the dangers to people in foreign lands.

The cowardice of the GOPe, though, is what frosts me, along with the feckless and faithlessness of the so-called “Press” that was more about giving cover to Obama than exposing his malfeasance in office.

I am sorry for his death, but how stupid can you be. North Korea has not been a safe place for Americans for 70 years.

I am completely convinced the family pulled the plug once the doctors told them he would never improve and that he as a person is already dead. No reason to maintain the decaying flesh, really. I completely understand them. And I also understand why they would not say that publicly. I can just imagine how many idiots would judge them as heartless killers then. But I am absolutely astonished with the level of unmitigated evil rivaling the Event Horizon that permeates N Korean regime. First that they even cared about the stupid poster so much to sentence him to 15 years for taking it off the wall. And second of course what they did to him, to his family, to the US, to the world. I think it was all premeditated and planned to show their utmost determination and ability to inflict sorrow and suffering on their perceived enemies. I think they deliberately killed him and resuscitated him a couple of times, allowing more and more of his brain to deteriorate. I don’t think they had to drown him or strangle him – there are many ways to cut off oxygen supply that cannot be traced (movie Deadpool comes on my mind, remember when he is in that tank…). Finally, when he could not move voluntarily, when he could not speak, when he could not understand sounds around him, when he could not see, but he was still able to breathe, eat, defecate on his own, they stopped, satisfied that they destroyed him. Then they waited for a year, caring for him to make sure he does not die, making sure to get rid of any traces of their torture, and also making sure for him never to recover beyond the vegetative state, before they returned his limp, unresponsive, atrophied, withering body to his loving parents. I think they made their point quite clear. I think that now everyone understand how bestially cruel that regime is. I don’t think any American would ever go there again until the Kims are gone. I suppose even Dennis Rodman will rethink going there…

Interesting what you had to say. I’m not convinced that the family pulled the plug this soon. Most parents seem to want to hold off for awhile so they can have that time with them, even knowing there is no hope. But if they did, I agree with you, they don’t need to tell anybody. That is private. Funny what you said about what you think they may have done to him, because today on the news the doctor stated that he had lost a lot of his brain, that it had died off, possible due to lack of oxygen. He suggested that they could have put pressure on his body to cut off air to the lungs and when he passed out, released the pressure. There was something he said about the lungs but I can’t remember it. He also said they are going to be doing an autopsy to see if they can determine exactly what they did to him. I heard tonight on the news that a travel ban may be coming and I hope it does. I hope other countries put one up and also everybody quit exporting things to them and allowing any imports from them into their countries. I head Rodman arrived there almost the same time that they were bringing Otto home but psycho kim (lower case on purpose) didn’t meet with him or he didn’t meet with kim.

You may be absolutely correct about all of that, but please, provide your evidence. I despise the N Korean regime, but I will not speculate. If you are going to say he was revived over and over to increase his brain damage, you really have to have some kind of evidence. We on the Right need to think clearly.

It is kind of hard to come by hard evidence from the hermit kingdom. All we have is educated speculation. Any traces of why he got into this state may have been carefully erased over a year since that happened. Perhaps this is why such a long delay in notifying the family.

You can blame Obama all you want. The truth is, this idiot went to the DPRK and committed a “prank” in a country that places importance on things like posters that we could never understand. He should have never been there, and Otto is to blame- solely…

When your a guest in a country such as North Korea you respect there laws as a American why take a chance you are being watched and you will be punished to extremes , Yes they crossed the line but so does vandalism, respect as a father it is what I teach my children especially when it comes to taking what’s not yours a lesson learned, be a father to your children if you are a money bag dad don’t expect nothing more then what happened

Nobama should’ve been helping a white man without the common sense to figure out that going to North Korea wasn’t a good idea even though he was book smart.
