Former Fox News Honcho Roger Ailes Has Died

The former Chairman and CEO of Fox News, Roger Ailes, has passed away.

According to the Daily Mail, Fox News hosts learned about the development from a posting on the Drudge report.

Ailes was battling a variety of health problems, but his cause of death is not yet known.

In a statement to the Drudge Report, Roger’s wife Elizabeth Ailes said:

I am profoundly sad and heartbroken to report that my husband, Roger Ailes, passed away this morning,” the statement read. “Roger was a loving husband to me, to his son Zachary, and a loyal friend to many. He was also a patriot, profoundly grateful to live in a country that gave him so much opportunity to work hard, to rise — and to give back.

Many consider Ailes to be the guiding force that turned Fox News into a cable powerhouse, dominating the ratings for many years while crushing competitors like MSNBC and CNN.

Ailes resigned from Fox News in 2016 following allegations of sexual harassment. He was the first of a number of prominent Fox News names to leave the channel recently; he was followed out by host Bill O’Reilly and co-President Bill Shine.

Ailes later served as an adviser to the presidential campaign of Donald Trump.

The Daily Mail includes an excerpt from his autobiography about his health problems:

In an excerpt from the 2013 biography Roger Ailes Off Camera, Ailes said he knew he didn’t have long left to live.

‘My doctor told me that I’m old, fat, and ugly, but none of those things is going to kill me immediately,’ he told the author, Zev Chafets, shortly before his 72nd birthday. ‘The actuaries say I have six to eight years. The best tables give me 10. Three thousand days, more or less.’

He added: ‘I’d give anything for another 10 years.’

Unfortunately for both Roger Ailes and those of us that greatly respect what he accomplished in conservative media, he didn’t have those ten years.

Sad to think that his last years have been so deleteriously affected by Megan Kelly and her disgruntled cohorts. RIP, Mr. Ailes.
