Report: ABC Cancels Tim Allen’s Conservative Sitcom Despite High Ratings

ABC has reportedly cancelled Tim Allen’s sitcom, Last Man Standing (LMS), despite its continued high ratings into its 6th season.

According to Deadline Hollywood, “LMS is on the higher end [cost-wise] for a multi-camera sitcom because of the marquee salary Allen commands, but 20th TV had agreed to license fee reductions in the past. This time, there was no bargaining, with ABC simply deciding against another season.”

Deadline Hollywood goes on to state that “the cancellation is a financial hit to 20th TV, which had sold LMS in syndication where the sitcom has been doing very well, a rare off-network ratings success story these days.”

Infowars writer Paul Joseph Watson questions the idea that LMS was cancelled due to 20th TV’s lack of desire to negotiate its continuation.

Watson writes that the cancellation is “leaving some to wonder whether the show was canned because of Allen’s conservative politics.”

Indeed, Tim Allen has been known for his very public digs at liberals.

During one episode of LMS, Allen lashed out at the idea of “microaggressions,” calling them “the latest liberal attack on free speech.”

In the real world, Allen once gave an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in which he called out liberals in Hollywood who squash conservative free speech.

“I’m not kidding,” he said. “You gotta be real careful around here. You get beat up if you don’t believe what everybody believes.”

“This is like 30s Germany,” he continued. “I don’t know what happened. If you’re not part of the group, ‘you know what we believe is right,’ I go, ‘well, I might have a problem with that.'”

Paul Joseph Watson writes, “it’s no secret that Hollywood and the entertainment world rigorously thought police the industry to punish conservatives who refuse to fall in line with the liberal consensus.”

He concludes, “was Allen’s sitcom canned for financial reasons, or did the comedian’s politics play a role in ABC’s decision to cancel the show?”

They are just a bad with actors on the Left.

Name one actor who has been nominated for Best Actor or Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars for the past 25 years. That’s ten men per year. Over 25 years is 250 male actors. Not one has been an openly gay actor. (Nathan Lane doesn’t count cuz he wasn’t Out at the time of his nomination.)

    The Answer is Zero.

So don’t be so fricken paranoid. When it comes to money, women & minorities Conservatives are in good company in Hollywood, namely, minorities. So get in line.

More to say, but i gotta go. —D

They all are gay. Otherwise, they don’t get cast. It is an open secret about the casting couch in Hollywood. Even the children must provide them sex, or no job. Ask John Travolta, if you don’t believe me. The worst cretins run the place. The WORST Satanists.

Maybe they are not good actors. Most are closeted to appeal to the mass population. Middle America goes to movies too. Plus the percentage of gay celebrities is miniscule compared to non gay. I don’t think you understand how small a number of the population gays make up. I am white I don’t get upset when blacks take most of the BET awards. You need to stop viewing the world as us vs them or you’re going to have a tough life.

Name the last time an openly conservative actor got an Oscar, even a nomination? And what does being gay have to do with the story? Only gays are considered left now? If that were true that would be great, but I think the term left encompasses quite a bit more than just people who are gay. To your point, I think the reason that no gay men/women or conservative actors have received an Oscar is because they are both in the minority, at least openly, in Hollywood. That is something they both have in common.

Well, the story is about conservatives being targeted, not gays, and I’m not saying that gays aren’t as well, but gays weren’t mentioned in the story. As my dear leftists friends would say, stop appropriating conservative cultural and social issues to promote gay issues. Bet you never thought you’d see that sentence. 🙂

The implication of this article is that conservatives are being uniquely targeted by a menacing Hollywood.

Yes you’re right. It doesn’t say that conservatives are being targeted in the absence of others.

But the implication is that they (conservative cry babies) have become a sacrificial lamb on the altar of fairness & equity. Hence my objection. THEY ARE NOT ALONE. — David

    • BeavertonSteve

      May 11, 2017 at 10:33 am

The answer to your question is Ian McKellan in 1999 and 2002.

He is certainly the exception to the rule. Being publicly out is still generally a career killer. You could certainly win an Oscar as a gay performer, the Academy doesn’t care and in fact probably would be happy to acknowledge them. The problem lies in then landing high paying leads as an publicly out actor. Again, McKellan is the exception. I think he gets a grandpa pass. For most gay actors the studios know that conservative Christian audiences are willing to completely spurn a movie for something as simple as the sexuality of the lead (or perhaps more importantly, the activism and attacks on their beliefs made by that person).

Don’t get me wrong, I am not condoning this. These are not my beliefs, but I came from that world and understand them well, and Hollywood, for as much as they say they are pro-gay, are about money first, principles second, or maybe third, or fourth.

It was so good and so funny and Archie’s views weren’t popular at that time in history, but the show was very popular. Last Man Standing is a much better show than All in the Family. I can’t understand why it’s being canceled but I will bet another network will jump on it and if we’re lucky, Last Man Standing will continue for many years to come.

I am not a liberal as I am about a hairs breath left of Attila the Hun. Robin does not sound like a hard core liberal. To me she sounds like liberals were many years ago. They may not have agreed with how conservatives wanted to do things but they never came and tore up the town. It was we agree to disagree and life went on. Whoever was in office was respected and that was that.

I don’t need the government to tell me I have to wear a helmet when I ride my motorcycle. Many of my friends are conservatives. I love old cars and most of the old guys I hang out with are a mixture of liberal and conservative. I’m not religious. Mike just reminds me of my friends. They always slam liberals, trying to rule me up, get me in an argument. Haha! Oh wow, that’s why I love this character. He is my friends, and even though my best friends are crazy conservatives (just messing with ya), I know they would help me or defend me and my right to speak my truth with their lives. So I will miss Mike and his family and friends profoundly. Through the dark cold winters here in Alaska, I loved watching that show.

Awesome…I just found this show earlier this year and have been watching a couple of episodes a night and now I’m in the sixth season. When my wife told me last night it was canceled, I was not very happy and didn’t believe her. The last I heard was LSM was going to be renewed. I don’t watch many comedies because of the so-called humor they try to run on me…but this show made me bust a gut…I have laughed so hard, till I cried…especially when Particia Richardson came on the show as Mrs. Potts and the jabs she took at her deceased husband left me laughing so hard. Hope another network picks it up, but then ABC will probably try to prevent that from happening. Nice to see a gun-toting tree-hugging liberal for once…nice to meet you.

If it made financial sense it would continue. What, they didn’t know Tim Allen was conservative BEFORE the show started? That’s been known in Hollywood for a very long time. If they are SO liberal why even give him a show? I know…more critical thinking.

Blue Bloods starring a conservative Tom Selleck is a hit…it stays on the air and he gets paid a shitload of money.

Rizolli and Isles with a conservative Angie Harmon was a big hit in syndication so it stayed on the air for a long time.

People also forget that the vast majority of conservative talk RADIO is produced and distributed by………….liberals. Why? Cause it makes MONEY.

Keep in mind Tim Allen had a tendency to demand a lot of money for his work on previous shows…. and that DOES have a financial impact on the rest of the show.

        May 11, 2017 at 4:47 pm

Allens character does imitate Bunkers but the show was not meant to be similar. All In The Family made fun of the character, it was funny because it was a time piece poking fun at how silly Bunkers racism and intolerance and archaic values. It exagerated it, it was funny because Bunker was the guy who threw it all out there, its entertaining; he was playing a character. Allens show is more like a mocumentary of Allen grasping at straws to desperately get his bizarre agenda out. Allens an uneducated man whose career is over and this show was somehow his way of being relevant. As a conservative I can tell you this guy makes no accurate references and is silly at best.

    Best show on tv .
    Big ratings drop for ABC.

So angry right now!! Please let some other network pick this show up fast. It is so sad that Hollywierd refuses to accept multiple viewpoints to be voiced. Keeps many of us from watching TV or Movies, and reading more and more books, which actually is OK by me. I get more mental stimulation, and save money, win win.

ABC is in mourning for the 900 pedophiles who were arrested last week.

Or, better yet, get out and about a bit. You’ll get more mental and physical activity if you go to a museum, etc.

Nooooooo! I LOVE LMS and my husband and I just discovered it:). The only show we watch on ABC. The only show that makes us laugh out loud! The only show on network tv that dares to allow the conservative point of view. The only show on network tv not constrained by political correctness. I am very sad:( I don’t think I am overstating when I say that LMS is an oasis in the otherwise barren wasteland of network TV.

After watching that clip, that’s the exact reason ABC cancelled this show.

    May 11, 2017 at 12:44 pm

One of the best sitcoms on TV and it’s canceled because liberals don’t like Tim Allen or his conservative views.. sad day for TV viewers everywhere.

LOL! So predictable, this was a show that had fun with both sides…. Buh Bye ABC

I am neither conservative nor liberal, I disagree with each side equally. 😉
But it is a shame that LMS is being cancelled, I love the show. And Allen manages to get digs in without being angry or hateful. We need more NON-PC humor like this to expose how stupid being overly PC is. Humor is meant to offend some people. It’s how you know its funny.

If this is true, I’m ticked off; I’m about as left As you can be, but I LOVE this show. My issue isn’t dem or republican; my issue is equality. I know plenty on BOTH sides who are the opposite of expectation.

Of course. Liberals cannot stand to hear the Truth spoken around them and expose their ignorance, bigotry, and intolerance.

I think it is fair to say that America is pretty much 50% liberals and 50% conservatives. For one side to continually try to silence the other, by removing shows like this. It will have consequences. Conservatives are not usually people to go out and protest, organize marches, or take their message to the streets. But you can only poke a sleeping bear for so long. As someone that lives in middle America, you can feel that something is changing. The right is starting to wake up and when that bear has finally had enough of having it’s rights and voices silenced. There will be a strong and visible response.

I love this show. I know its been on for a while but I never heard about it untill I accidently saw it a month or so ago. My husband and then watched every episode on netflicks. So sad to see it won ‘t be back.

Meanwhile that “Modern Family” crap will no doubt continue despite being utterly awful, unfunny & full of bad acting. Couldn’t be because it pushes a PC/regressive agenda though…

Modern Family mocks the Modern Family. On the surface, it looks “progressive,” but it really makes fun of liberal Southern California.

Can’t be for financial reasons since the show was doing well. I don’t understand why liberals can’t let everyone have their opinion. Look at FOX. The idiot sons let their wives make bad decisions and fire the good anchors and now their ratings are down and they are going to lose a fortune. GOOD! Kiss liberal butt and you ultimately LOSE!! Same for ABC!

Love this show it is one of my husbands all time favorite…This is total bullsh..everything is so political now days and I’m so tired of if you don’t agree with what they think then lets get rid of it…What ever happened to free speech and not having to agree with everyone?

  48. Mike Rose

    May 12, 2017 at 10:32 am

There’s absolutely no reason to cancel this show because of “politics”. There’s a reason for its high ratings people, a lot of conservatives AND liberals watch this show. It must have be done for economic reasons…

Shades of CBS’s “Rural Purge” of 1970-71, when a bunch of well-performing shows with rural/small town settings were axed to make way for “hipper” shows with more salable demographics?

WRONG MOVE ABC!!! With all the crap allowed television including their network and their cancelling this? We love this show! I appreciate seeing a conservative view point represented in sitcoms for once. If a show is good, I watch it…I don’t discrimate….the entertainment industry and executives need to do the same.

I look forward to watching each episode!! It’s one show our whole family can watch together! It makes us laugh, and think and hear has even inspired me to make yummy food – cuz they’re always eating something delicious looking!! The actors are so fun!! It’s great that an interesting show doesn’t gross us out with fighting, killing and awkward sex scenes when our kids are watching with us! I sure hope ABC doesn’t cancel the show.
