Members of France’s far-left are apparently not happy at all following news that Marine Le Pen will be advancing to the second round of the French election.
According to Bloomberg, the far-right Le Pen currently holds 25.2% of the vote, compared to her leading centerist opponent Emmanuel Macron’s 21.1%. This pits the two against each other in the May 7th runoff.
That means the far-left’s Jean-Luc Melenchon simply did not make the cut, nor did the center-right Francois Fillon or the Socialist Party’s Benoit Hamon.
As a result of the stunninng rejection of far-left ideals, it appears many liberals have taken to the streets to vent their anger. Clashes between riot police ensued.
Here’s one live look at the happenings in Paris.
Here’s a live stream from Sputnik France.
Sputnik reports that police used smoke pellets against protesters who had broken fences in Central Paris. At least one girl was reportedly injured during the clashes.
Meanwhile, in Le Pen’s camp, celebrations are underway.
