Report: Melania Accepts Daily Mail Apology & 7-Figure Payout Over ‘Escort’ Allegations

The Daily Mail and Melania Trump have reached an agreement to settle a libel suit the First Lady filed against the media company in regards to its accusations that she worked as an escort.

According to The Guardian, a statement read out in the Royal Courts of Justice In London stated The Daily Mail’s double-page spread — which was also published online — included “false and defamatory claims about [Melania] which questioned the nature of her work as a professional model and republished allegations that she provided services beyond simply modelling.”

The Daily Mail ultimately published a retraction for its piece in September of last year. Melania Trump still reportedly sought damages of $150 million.

According to SFGate, this is a screenshot of the article at the center of the scandal. It also appeared in The Daily Mail’s print edition over a two-page spread with the headline “Racy photos and troubling questions about his wife’s past that could derail Trump.”

She won’t be getting that much money with a payout of under $3 million. The settlement also includes an apology by The Daily Mail which reportedly reads:

The Daily Mail newspaper and the Mail Online/ website published an article on 20th August 2016 about Melania Trump which questioned the nature of her work as a professional model, and republished allegations that she provided services beyond simply modelling.

The article included statements that Mrs Trump denied the allegations and Paulo Zampolli, who ran the modelling agency, also denied the allegations, and the article also stated that there was no evidence to support the allegations.

The article also claimed that Mr and Mrs Trump may have met three years before they actually met, and ‘staged’ their actual meeting as a ‘ruse’.

We accept that these allegations about Mrs Trump are not true and we retract and withdraw them. We apologise to Mrs Trump for any distress that our publication caused her. To settle Mrs Trump’s two lawsuits against us, we have agreed to pay her damages and costs.

Maybe the liberal media should drop their use of Fake News, and they wouldn’t end up getting sued for libel for making crap up just to paint the Trumps in a bad light.
